A player walks away from a weekend of NJ sports betting a winner. Now, what?
It can be a bit more difficult to withdraw money from an online sportsbook then it is to deposit it. Sports bettors should plan if they hope to get their hands on their money sooner rather than later.
Just like the different sportsbooks have different deposit methods, they also have different withdrawal rules and timelines.
As a follow-up to our analysis of deposit options at NJ gambling sites, we recently went through the withdrawal policies for New Jersey online sports betting accounts.

DraftKings Sportsbook has some of the most limited withdrawal choices. Players can withdraw via the same methods they deposit.
DraftKings calculates a player’s available balance by the amount of funds deposited plus the net amount a player won. Then it adds the funds on the player’s daily fantasy sports account to arrive at the total available funds for sports betting or withdrawal.
BetStars credits withdrawals back to the original deposit method, starting with the oldest deposit method first.
The company applies withdrawals up to the amount deposited and then credits the next oldest deposit method in the following order:
- Instant e-checks
A player can choose the withdrawal method for any withdrawal amount left over after matching all original deposit methods.
Each method, however, has different timelines:
- Electronic wallets: Funds will appear immediately after processing up to the amount deposited and three to 10 business days for withdrawals more than the deposit amount.
- Instant e-checks: Allow three to 10 business days for the funds to appear on the statement.
- PokerStarsPlay+ card: Allow up to 72 hours for funds to appear.
- Resorts Casino cage withdrawals take approximately two hours.
FanDuel Sportsbook has some specific requirements for its withdrawals.
For instance, the sportsbook will only approve ACH and e-check withdrawals to brick-and-mortar banks. However, players can have up to three bank accounts saved in their wallet. Allow four to six business days for funds to appear.
Players may only withdraw to PayPal or a Betfair prepaid card if they used the wallet to deposit funds. Expect funds to appear within 48 hours.
FanDuel is also willing to mail a physical check to the address on file. Allow five to seven days for processing plus mailing time.
Caesars and 888 Sport
Both companies require verification of a players withdrawal choice before the withdrawal can proceed. We provide some insight into the verification process but watch for specific instructions from 888 after initiating a withdrawal.
A player has 14 days to verify the withdrawal method. Failure to confirm the deposit method will result in the cancellation of the withdrawal. The company will return the funds of the canceled withdrawal to the player’s account.
888 Sport and Caesars automatically processes withdrawals back to verified deposit methods with one exception.
888 Sport does not process withdrawals back to credit and debit cards. Caesars will, but only after the use of all other verified deposit methods.
SugarHouse makes available funds for withdrawal to a variety of methods. The sportsbook processes most withdrawals within 24 hours, but it can take up to 72 hours.
Once approved, delivery time to the various withdrawal methods varies:
- SugarHouse prepaid card: Funds are available immediately.
- Neteller: Funds are available within 24 hours.
- ACH/e-check: Funds are available within three to five business days.
- Casino Cage: Funds are available immediately.
- Check by mail: A physical check will arrive within 10 to 14 business days.
William Hill NJ (Caesars NJ) has limited withdrawal options.
Players can withdraw funds to a William Hill prepaid card. Additionally, players can pick up funds at Monmouth Park Sportsbook and William Hill Sportsbook at Ocean Resort Casino.
William Hill processes withdrawal requests within 72 hours. According to its website, they ask customers with larger deposits and withdrawals to contact customer support.
PlayMGM may request a security review of any withdrawal.
Players should allow up to five days for processing. Once approved, funds are available “as soon a reasonably possible depending on the withdrawal method you chose.”
Withdrawal verification requirements
Sportsbooks have the right to ask for verification documents before approving a withdrawal. Those documents vary based on the deposit method and withdrawal preference.
Credit and debit card withdrawals
The sportsbook may want to verify the credit or debit card belongs to the person requesting the withdrawal.
Verification includes providing a copy of the front and back of your credit card. Most books will ask to black out the three-digit code on the back and the middle eight numbers on the front of the card.
If verification is needed, the sportsbook will provide detailed instructions.
Bank transfers and ACH withdrawals
Verifying a bank account usually requires a copy of a bank statement with a name and account number.
Other documentation requests
A player may be required to provide proof of the address used when registering for the sportsbook account. It can come in the form of a utility bill, credit card statement, or a copy of a government-issued ID card.
Additionally, a sports bettor may be asked to prove they are who they say they are. A government-issued passport, driver’s license, or state ID card is sufficient to determine one’s identity.
A final reminder for all you NJ sports betting enthusiasts: Ensure the name, account numbers, and address are clear and readable. The faster the information gets verified, the faster the money will be on its way.
