The NFL’s week 13 did not treat our 3 local teams kindly. Simply put, there were ugly losses on Sunday for each of the teams.
It was a tough week for the Jets, Giants, and Eagles and all 3 teams are looking to turn things around this weekend.
The Jets loss in Cincinnati to the Bengals earned them the dubious distinction of losing to 2 prior winless teams with records or 0-7 or greater (Dolphins, week 8) in the same season.
One positive result of the Bengals win is that this gentleman in Cincinnati was able to stop living in a tent on the roof of his bar:

Giants vs eagles MNF Matchup
The Eagles traveled to South Florida to try to right the ship after back to back home losses to the Patriots and the Seahawks.
The Eagles ran into a suddenly resurgent Dolphins team that used the QB/receiver combo of “FitzMagic” to DeVante Parker plus some unique gadget plays to literally win a “laugher” against the Birds:

The Giants fared no better at home in a snowy Met Life Stadium against the Packers.
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense toyed with the Giants defense and the Packers D battered and bruised the Giants and their QB Daniel Jones:

Looking ahead to week 14 to the Giants vs Eagles MNF Matchup, it will be interesting to see how each team performs. Which team has that “bouncebackability?”
Is “bouncebackability” really a word? Well, I first heard it used during my time living in the UK by English Premier League’s Crystal Palace Manager Iain Dowie to describe the character of his team to “bounce-back” after several tough losses.
Monday Night Football fans will be treated to the first 2019 installment of the Giants-Eagles rivalry in Philadelphia.
Let’s take a closer look at the #BigBlue vs #FlyEaglesFly Eagles MNF match-up.
I was surprised to learn of the Philadelphia Eagles recent dominance in this series, having won 10 of the last 12 games against the NY Giants.
The last Giants regular-season win against the Eagles came in November 2016, when the Giants were led to victory by Eli Manning. As of yesterday, Eli was listed as “highly likely” to start for the Giants with Daniel Jones suffering a high ankle sprain last week against the Packers.
Here are a few Giants and Eagles 2019 betting trends to consider for Monday night:
- Giants are 4-8 against the spread, 3-3 on the road and 2-0-0 on grass.
- Giants are 5-1 O/U on the road this season.
- Eagles are also 4-8 against the spread, 2-4 at home.
- Eagles are 2-4 O/U at home this year.
In terms of some relevant historical trends:
- Giants are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games on grass.
- Giants are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games as a road underdog.
- The Under is 4-0 in Eagles last 4 home games.
- The Under is 5-1 in Eagles last 6 games vs. a team with a losing record.
- The Under is 7-2 in the last 9 Giants vs Eagles meetings in Philadelphia.
The great news for New Jersey bettors is that they can do their analysis and review all the trends and then legally bet the Giants vs Eagles MNF game as well as the rest of the NFL slate on the William Hill Sportsbook.
As I mentioned, I had the opportunity to live in London in the early 2000’s. There was a William Hill bet shop right down the corner, so I was able to take the occasional plunge on football, cricket and rugby matches.
In fact , there are still a few tiny William Hill UK pens and pencils floating around in one of those drawers that has rubber bands, paper clips and scotch tape.
Looking ahead to this week’s NFL opportunities on William Hill, even though it’s week 14, they still offer a great selection of NFL futures wagers to consider.
The NFC East is still a toss-up, who do you like?
Eagles are +125 to win the NFC East
The Eagles only path to the playoffs is to win their division. That makes the William Hill Eagles “Yes/No” playoff prop pricing at +170 even more enticing:

William Hill Sportsbook offers spread, totals and in-game wagering. While additional game and player props will be added closer to game on Monday night, William Hill offers an interesting prop related to home and away touchdowns and quarters/halves won.
Here’s a look at the pricing for Big Blue:
Typically, the team that has fewer punts and turnovers will win the game.
William Hill offers props related to both categories:

The NFL Local Line
As mentioned above, all 3 of our local teams are looking for better performances in Week 14. The Jets will try to start a new winning streak against the Dolphins on Sunday at Met Life Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Eagles enter the weekend with their season on the line (again) on Monday Night against the Giants, who are looking to put some positive news on the board amid a disappointing 2-10 season.
Here are the current local betting lines as of Thursday afternoon via William Hill Sportsbook:
- Jets: -5.5 (-110) vs Dolphins +5.5 (-110); Total 45.5
- Jets Money line: -250; Dolphins +205
- Eagles: -9.5 (-110) vs Giants +9.5 (-110); Total 46
- Eagles Money line: -440; Giants +340
The bye weeks are over in week 14, with every NFL team in action. Sunday’s schedule has nine (9) 1PM starts and three (3) 4PM window games. The Sunday night game features the Seahawks at Rams.
My 3 Picks – from the Jersey Side
I managed to rack up another 2-1 week on my Thanksgiving Day picks. It’s never a great sign for your UNDER bet when it’s already 7-7, 4 minutes into the 1st Quarter, but that’s what happened in the Bears-Lions game.
Both teams settled down to combine for 30 points in the remaining 56 minutes but there was no chance to stay under the total of 38.5.
The Bills won outright as a 6.5 point underdog in Dallas.
The Saints were always in control against the Falcons despite their inability to field on-side kicks in the last 2 minutes of the game to win and cover in the Thursday Night primetime game.
My Week 13 Recap
Week 2-1, Season YTD 17-21-1
- Bears and Lions UNDER 38.5 (Bears 24, Lions 20)
- BILLS (+6.5) over Cowboys (BILLS 26, Cowboys 15)
- SAINTS (-6.5) over Falcons (SAINTS 26, Falcons 18)
My Week 14 Selections
Here is what I like this week:
- Eagles vs Giants UNDER 46
Eagles fans may have to resign themselves to the fact that their offensive core may never be fully healthy this year. Each week there are at least 1 or 2 key offensive players that are injured.
This has led to some challenging offensive performances this year. The Eagles offense coupled with a Giants offense that has certainly had its share of injury reports will have trouble putting points on the board.
I am taking the view that this game stays well below the total of 46 on Monday night.
- Chiefs +3 over Patriots
Patrick Mahomes looks to be back at 100% and that spells bad news for the rest of the AFC. What was meant to be a showdown for the AFC Western Division last week turned into the Chiefs routing the Raiders 40-9.
The Chiefs are in a great position as they travel to New England and try to knock off the Patriots Sunday afternoon. The Pats defense has been stout all season but could offer little resistance as the Texans scored 4 TD’s against them last Sunday night.
I’m not buying the “Tom Brady is done” talk, it’s just that he’s had so few healthy weapons to work and their running attack has been below average. Barring another monsoon, like the Pats-Browns and Pat-Cowboys games, I think it’s the right time for the Chiefs to avenge their AFC Championship loss with an outright win over the Patriots in Foxboro.
- BILLS +6 over Ravens
At some point, the Ravens must come back down to earth, right?
After beating the Patriots at home in Week 9, they have subsequently destroyed the Bengals, Texans, and Rams but needed a field goal as time expired to beat the 49ers last week.
Maybe they are slowing down but that’s a big “maybe. The Ravens are a hard team to bet against, but I will take my chances that the Bills can do some damage this Sunday.
Speaking of coming back down to the earth, the Bills raced to a 3-0 start and are flying high at 9-3. They will have had 10 days to bask in the afterglow of their dominant win in Dallas on Thanksgiving.
This will be a great matchup of 2 AFC playoff teams, and I think the Bills will keep this one close to cover the 6-point spread.
