The Bet Is On: NJ Sports Betting Options While We Wait For Sports To Return

The precautionary measures surrounding the coronavirus pandemic has most of us thinking about the future.

Like, when are professional sports returning?

The lack of MLB, NBA and NHL games limits the current NJ sports betting markets.

Instead of refreshing the Twitter feed every five minutes for an announcement, there are still options.

NFL and MLB futures can help fill the void (even if it takes months to settle the ticket).

As of Tuesday, FanDuel Sportsbook was still taking wagers on Tom Brady’s next team. Those who took the New England Patriots (-165) have already lost.

NFL betting markets open

The NFL regular season is one pro sports league currently not suspended as a result of COVID-19. By the time the opening weekend arrives, the hope is life will be back to normal.

By comparison, the Philadelphia Eagles are +1700.

Here is a look at some of the other favorites:

  • Saints +1100
  • Cowboys +1200
  • Seahawks +1700

Carson Wentz MVP?

Some bettors, especially Eagles fans, may consider wagering on Carson Wentz winning the league MVP.

FanDuel has set the odds at +1600.

At the same time, there are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding the Birds offense. Mainly, which wide receivers will be on the roster.

Could Philly be cutting ties with Alshon Jeffery?

Will DeSean Jackson make it through the season healthy?

Plus, there will be other additions and subtractions to the roster.

So for now, call Wentz the underdog against tough competition.

Here are the latest odds from FanDuel:

  • Patrick Mahomes +380
  • Lamar Jackson or Russell Wilson +600
  • Deshaun Watson +1200
  • Dak Prescott +1400
  • Drew Brees +1600

NBA futures status check

Like with baseball, there is no update on if and when NBA teams will resume play.

Currently, the Milwaukee BucksToronto RaptorsBoston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers have clinched playoff spots.

But what does this mean for the futures market?

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has provided guidance relating to pending wagers.

At the same time, customers still have the option of filling out a mobile bet slip.

Here are the NBA futures from William Hill:

  • Lakers +200
  • Bucks +240
  • Clippers +300
  • Rockets +1600
  • Celtics or Raptors +1800

So the coronavirus has not entirely wiped out the NJ sport betting markets.
