When it comes to March Madness betting, play-in games typically take a backseat to first- and second-round games. That is not the case this time around, at least for Michigan State bettors.

But when New Jersey online sportsbooks are offering customers a blockbuster gimme and a substantial odds boost that mindset changes. FanDuel and DraftKings are both putting the promo spotlight on Thursday’s  First Four game between Michigan State and UCLA.

Call it tipping off the 2021  NCAA Tournament the right way for New Jersey online bettors. More than likely, at least for a day, they will become very big Spartans fans, as Michigan State highlights two promotions.

FanDuel Sportsbook + Spead The Love = cha-ching

Some things advertised as too good to be true really are too good to be true.  This is especially the case with FanDuel Sportsbook.

As of Wednesday morning, the line for tomorrow night’s Michigan State-UCLA showdown (9:57 p.m. tip) is Spartans -2. That’s without the promo.

However, bettors who opt-in for the Spread The Love promo will see the line jump all the way up to Michigan State +91.5 points. Keep in mind, this line will keep moving all the way up to tipoff.

This is an excellent FanDuel offer, taken from its Spread the Love playbook.

New Jersey online bettors will be handed money simply to wager on Michigan State against UCLA. This is $45.45 (a maximum $50 wager that pays -110) that might as well be gift-wrapped, with a bow.

But you can get them at oh, somewhere near +100, maybe even more, depending upon how many people wager on Michigan State.

For every 2,500 fans who bet on Michigan State, Fan Duel will move the line one point in the Spartans’ favor.

There’s no limit to how good this line can get. It won’t stop until fans stop betting. Plus, everyone gets the final spread, no matter when you bet.

How Spread The Love promo works

New Jersey customers simply need to place a wager in the “Spread the Love” market and watch the betting odds increase in their favor.

FanDuel will pay out wherever the final spread is by tipoff. The bonus is issued as cash.

New and existing customers can wager in the Spread the Love market.

This promo continues to be a FanDuel staple for giveaway bets. Half the fun in selecting the wager is trying to guess how many bettors will participate.

Spread the Love promos become a form of advertising and recruiting new players.

That’s why Michigan State may be giving points, but gamblers are getting money.

DraftKings offering a boost to Michigan State bettors

DraftKings Sportsbook has a wealth of wonderful March Madness promotions, too. It selected this game, however, as a boost rather than a giveaway.

Michigan State has been boosted from -136 to +100, a nice move on basis points.

That changes the moneyline to better value than taking Michigan State -2 at -112 on Tuesday.

If Michigan State wins by one point, the gambler triumphs in this moneyline boost on a bet that would have been a loser on the spread. The gamblers also get a better price.

The boost brings game handicapping into play.

From a betting perspective, this is an excellent value if you already believe Michigan State will win. The Spartans knocked off Michigan, now a No. 1 seed, late in the regular season.

Here are the quick terms:

  • Following opt-in, bettors will be issued with one single-use odds boost on Spartans to win.
  • Boosted odds are for a maximum $25 bet.
  • Customers must select the boost in their betslip before placing the wager.
  • The offer excludes live bets, parlays, cashout bets, free and voided bets.

Taken together, these promos illustrate the value of shopping for specials. Many bettors support both books and will play each of these.

One gives them money. The other gives them an edge.

Both are valued.
