Oklahoma vs. LSU betting trends and fast facts

  • This match-up features this year’s top 2 Heisman finishers: Winner, QB Joe Burrow of LSU and runner-up QB Jalen Hurts from Oklahoma.
  • LSU led the nation in total offense (554.3 yards per game) and scored 48 points per game (3rd nationally). This is LSU’s first appearance in the Playoff since the current format began in 2014.
  • Oklahoma won its fifth straight Big 12 championship and is making a third straight Playoff appearance. The OU offense finished second in the FBS in total yards (554.2) and fifth in points per game (43.2).
  • These teams last met back in 2004, when LSU beat OU 21-14 for the BCS championship.
  • There was one 2019 common opponent for both teams: Texas. LSU beat the Longhorns 45-38 and the Sooners beat Texas 34-27.
  • In the brief 5-year history of the Playoff, the No. 1 seed has never won the national championship. The winners have come from the No. 2 seed (three times) and No. 4 seed (two times).
  • In 2019, LSU was 8-5 ATS. Under coach Ed Ogeron, LSU is 2-1 ATS in bowl games and 5-2 ATS at neutral sites.
  • The Sooners were 5-8 against the spread in 2019.  They are also 3-5 against the spread and 5-3 straight up at neutral sites under Lincoln Riley since 2017.
  • While only 5 of Oklahoma’s 13 games went over the total in 2019, it’s important to note that the last two Sooners Playoff games against SEC teams have been high-scoring affairs, losing to Alabama 45-34 last year and to Georgia in 2017 54-48  (2 OT).

Clemson vs. Ohio State betting trends and fast facts

  • Ohio State led the nation in scoring offense (48.7 points per game) with Heisman finalist QB Justin Fields at the helm. On the defensive side, another Heisman finalist, Chase Young, led a stout defense that was tied for third in scoring defense (12.5 points per game).
  • Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day is 16-0 since taking over for Urban Meyer.
  • Defending national champ Clemson is currently riding a 28-game win streak under head coach Dabo Swinney.
  • The Tigers ranked fourth in scoring offense (46.5 points per game) and first in scoring defense (10.6 points per game).
  • Clemson has won all three historical matchups against Ohio State. The first time the teams met was in 1978 Gator Bowl when OSU coach Woody Hayes punched Clemson’s Charlie Bauman in the Tigers 17-15 win. In the 2 other more recent matchups, Clemson beat the Buckeyes in the 2014 Orange Bowl (40-35) and 2016 Fiesta Bowl semi-final (31-0).
  • Ohio State was the favorite in every game this season, finishing 9-4 against the spread, but only 1-3 in its last 4 games.
  • Clemson was also favored in every game, finishing 10-3 vs the spread, including 4-0 in their final four games.
  • Ohio State has an ATS bowl record of  5-0 as an underdog since 2014.
  • This is a fascinating match-up with both teams in the top 5 in both offensive and defensive stats. It will be interesting to see how the 1st quarter plays out as Clemson outscored opponents 170-17, while Ohio St was almost as impressive, holding a 136-38 edge in the opening 15 minutes of the game.

Clemson vs. Ohio State betting props

As I referenced above, both teams have dominated in the 1st quarter. Here is PointsBet’s current first-quarter pricing:

    • Justin Fields Passing + Rushing Yards: Over 360.5  (+125)
    • J.K. Dobbins Rushing Yards: Over 110.5 Rushing Yards (Boosted From +135)

There is also an additional promotion from PointsBet for the Clemson vs Ohio State game. If your team scores the first TD of the game, you win. This applies to pre-game, moneyline bets only, with 1st $50 wagered.

Jersey Sides & Totals: Eagles NFC East hopes go through Big Blue

Week 16 was an epic Sunday in the Tri-state area, as it was the only slate of the 2019 season in which the New York Giants, New York Jets, and Philadelphia Eagles picked up wins. Fantastic!

The Jets hung on to win a tight finish at home over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Giants needed overtime to put away the pesky Washington Redskins, and the Eagles stood tall against the Dallas Cowboys in a win that provided the upper hand in the NFC East division race.

In beating the Cowboys, the Eagles took a huge step to control their destiny for the division title. A victory this Sunday at Met Life vs the Giants would cement Philly’s playoff spot.

The Eagles’ playoff scenarios look like this:

  • Eagles Win/Dallas Win or Loss: Eagles make the playoffs
  • Eagles Lose/Dallas Loses (home vs Redskins): Eagles make the playoffs
  • Eagles Lose/Dallas Wins; Cowboys make the playoffs

How should New Jersey sports betting fans approach the Eagles vs Giants match-up?

Facts and trends to consider ahead of Sunday

Giants QB Daniel Jones Has Never Faced the Eagles

The rookie was injured in Week 14 when the Eagles staged a furious 2nd half comeback to beat the Giants in overtime. This will be the first time “Danny Dimes” faces the Eagles.

As the teams meet for the final time this decade, the Eagles hold a 15-4 record over the Giants. So it’s conceivable that Jones could restore the Giants’ winning ways over the Eagles.

The Eagles have rolled through the NFC East

The NFL scheduling gods handed the Eagles four straight division games to close out their regular season schedule.

On the heels of wins over the Giants, Redskins, and Cowboys, there’s reason to believe the Eagles will continue their winning streak in East Rutherford.

Green and Black and Blue

Both the Eagles and Giants are dealing with injuries heading into the final week.

For the Giants Corey Ballentine, Lorenzo Carter, Alec Ogletree, and Mike Remmers missed practice earlier in the week. Darius Slayton and Nick Gates were also limited in practice.

The Eagles, whose injuries at offensive positions have been well documented this season, will welcome Jordan Howard back to the lineup.

Concerns still exist, however, for the status of offensive line stalwart Lane Johnson and all-world tight end Zach Ertz. The seventh-year Eagle is dealing with sore ribs suffered in Week 16.

It will be important to monitor each team’s published injury updates heading into Sunday’s game at 4:25 p.m.

From a betting perspective, here’s the current line detail for the game via DraftKings Sportsbook:

The NFL Local Line

The highlight for betting on the NFL this week will be the Eagles vs Giants game.

The NFL has altered the schedule so that that the Giants/Eagles and Cowboys/Redskins games will both kick-off at 4:25 p.m. The Jets close out their season by traveling to Buffalo looking to avenge their Week 2 loss to the Bills.

Here are the current local betting lines as of Thursday afternoon via DraftKings:

Sunday’s NFL schedule has eight 1:00 p.m. starts and seven 4:00 p.m. window games.

The Sunday night game features the San Francisco 49ers at the Seattle Seahawks with the NFC West title on the line. This will be the last game of the regular season game before the playoffs begin.

My 3 Picks – from the Jersey Side

My hopes of getting back to .500 for the year were dashed, as my 2-1 result locks in a sub-.500 result in 2019.

I clicked with the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts both winning and covering on Sunday.

But the Vikings let me down, as Kirk Cousins did Kirk Cousins things in their home loss on Monday night to the Packers.

My Week 16 recap

Week 2-1, Season YTD 22-25-1

  • Broncos -6.5 over Lions (Broncos 27, Lions 17)
  • Colts -7 over Panthers (Colts 38, Panthers 6)
  • Vikings -5.5 over Packers (Packers 23, Vikings 10)

My Week 17 Selections

Here are my picks for this week:

Chiefs -8.5 over Chargers

The Kansas City Chiefs have become a juggernaut in the second half of the season, and look to enter the playoffs with their 6th straight win.

However, there may be a question of how long Mahomes stays in the game against the reeling Los Angeles Chargers. Anthony Lynn’s squad has lost five of their last six games.

Bengals +3 over Browns

The Cincinnati Bengals have secured the rights to the 1st overall pick in the 2020 draft.

Armed with the top pick and momentum from a Week 16 rally in Miami, the Bengals will let it all hang out against their division rival Sunday. The Cleveland Browns will mercifully close out a disappointing 2019 campaign.

Steelers -2 over Ravens

Sometimes you just look at the line and go with it. The Baltimore Ravens have locked down the #1 seed in the AFC and will be resting most, if not all of their starters.

The Pittsburgh Steelers need this win in Baltimore to get into the playoffs. After losing Ben Roethlisberger in Week 2, it’s remarkable that Pittsburgh has made it to this point. I’m hoping Steelers coach Mike Tomlin can lead the Steelers to a win and playoff berth.

Eagles, Giants, Jets – One Team Looks To Bounce Back In MNF Matchup

The NFL’s week 13 did not treat our 3 local teams kindly. Simply put, there were ugly losses on Sunday for each of the teams.

It was a tough week for the Jets, Giants, and Eagles and all 3 teams are looking to turn things around this weekend.

The Jets loss in Cincinnati to the Bengals earned them the dubious distinction of losing to 2 prior winless teams with records or 0-7 or greater (Dolphins, week 8) in the same season.

One positive result of the Bengals win is that this gentleman in Cincinnati was able to stop living in a tent on the roof of his bar:

Giants vs eagles MNF Matchup

The Eagles traveled to South Florida to try to right the ship after back to back home losses to the Patriots and the Seahawks.

The Eagles ran into a suddenly resurgent Dolphins team that used the QB/receiver combo of “FitzMagic” to DeVante Parker plus some unique gadget plays to literally win a “laugher” against the Birds:

The Giants fared no better at home in a snowy Met Life Stadium against the Packers.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense toyed with the Giants defense and the Packers D battered and bruised the Giants and their QB Daniel Jones:

Looking ahead to week 14 to the Giants vs Eagles MNF Matchup, it will be interesting to see how each team performs. Which team has that “bouncebackability?”

Is “bouncebackability” really a word? Well, I first heard it used during my time living in the UK by English Premier League’s Crystal Palace Manager Iain Dowie to describe the character of his team to “bounce-back” after several tough losses.

Monday Night Football fans will be treated to the first 2019 installment of the Giants-Eagles rivalry in Philadelphia.

Let’s take a closer look at the #BigBlue vs #FlyEaglesFly Eagles MNF match-up.

I was surprised to learn of the Philadelphia Eagles recent dominance in this series, having won 10 of the last 12 games against the NY Giants.

The last Giants regular-season win against the Eagles came in November 2016, when the Giants were led to victory by Eli Manning. As of yesterday, Eli was listed as “highly likely” to start for the Giants with Daniel Jones suffering a high ankle sprain last week against the Packers.

Here are a few Giants and Eagles 2019 betting trends to consider for Monday night:

  • Giants are 4-8 against the spread, 3-3 on the road and 2-0-0 on grass.
  • Giants are 5-1 O/U on the road this season.
  • Eagles are also 4-8 against the spread, 2-4 at home.
  • Eagles are 2-4 O/U at home this year.

In terms of some relevant historical trends:

  • Giants are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games on grass.
  • Giants are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games as a road underdog.
  • The Under is 4-0 in Eagles last 4 home games.
  • The Under is 5-1 in Eagles last 6 games vs. a team with a losing record.
  • The Under is 7-2 in the last 9 Giants vs Eagles meetings in Philadelphia.

The great news for New Jersey bettors is that they can do their analysis and review all the trends and then legally bet the Giants vs Eagles MNF game as well as the rest of the NFL slate on the William Hill Sportsbook.

William Hill Sportsbook

As I mentioned, I had the opportunity to live in London in the early 2000’s. There was a William Hill bet shop right down the corner, so I was able to take the occasional plunge on football, cricket and rugby matches.

In fact , there are still a few tiny William Hill UK pens and pencils floating around in one of those drawers that has rubber bands, paper clips and scotch tape.

Eagles Giants William Hill Sportsbook

Looking ahead to this week’s NFL opportunities on William Hill, even though it’s week 14, they still offer a great selection of NFL futures wagers to consider.

The NFC East is still a toss-up, who do you like?

Eagles are +125 to win the NFC East

Eagles Giants William Hill SportsbookThe Eagles only path to the playoffs is to win their division. That makes the William Hill Eagles “Yes/No” playoff prop pricing at +170 even more enticing:

William Hill Sportsbook offers spread, totals and in-game wagering. While additional game and player props will be added closer to game on Monday night, William Hill offers an interesting prop related to home and away touchdowns and quarters/halves won.

Here’s a look at the pricing for Big Blue:

Eagles Giants William Hill Sportsbook

Typically, the team that has fewer punts and turnovers will win the game.

William Hill offers props related to both categories:

William Hill SportsbookBe sure to check out William Hill NJ Online Sportsbook for their updated Giants-Eagles MNF pricing as well as the rest of the week 14 NFL schedule.

The NFL Local Line

As mentioned above, all 3 of our local teams are looking for better performances in Week 14. The Jets will try to start a new winning streak against the Dolphins on Sunday at Met Life Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Eagles enter the weekend with their season on the line (again) on Monday Night against the Giants, who are looking to put some positive news on the board amid a disappointing 2-10 season.

Here are the current local betting lines as of Thursday afternoon via William Hill Sportsbook:

  • Jets: -5.5 (-110) vs Dolphins +5.5 (-110); Total 45.5
  • Jets Money line: -250; Dolphins +205
  • Eagles: -9.5 (-110) vs Giants +9.5 (-110); Total 46
  • Eagles Money line: -440; Giants +340

The bye weeks are over in week 14, with every NFL team in action. Sunday’s schedule has nine (9) 1PM starts and three (3) 4PM window games. The Sunday night game features the Seahawks at Rams.

My 3 Picks – from the Jersey Side

I managed to rack up another 2-1 week on my Thanksgiving Day picks. It’s never a great sign for your UNDER bet when it’s already 7-7, 4 minutes into the 1st Quarter, but that’s what happened in the Bears-Lions game.

Both teams settled down to combine for 30 points in the remaining 56 minutes but there was no chance to stay under the total of 38.5.

The Bills won outright as a 6.5 point underdog in Dallas.

The Saints were always in control against the Falcons despite their inability to field on-side kicks in the last 2 minutes of the game to win and cover in the Thursday Night primetime game.

My Week 13 Recap

Week 2-1, Season YTD 17-21-1

  • Bears and Lions UNDER 38.5 (Bears 24, Lions 20)
  • BILLS (+6.5) over Cowboys (BILLS 26, Cowboys 15)
  • SAINTS (-6.5) over Falcons (SAINTS 26, Falcons 18)

My Week 14 Selections

Here is what I like this week:

  • Eagles vs Giants UNDER 46

Eagles fans may have to resign themselves to the fact that their offensive core may never be fully healthy this year. Each week there are at least 1 or 2 key offensive players that are injured.

This has led to some challenging offensive performances this year. The Eagles offense coupled with a Giants offense that has certainly had its share of injury reports will have trouble putting points on the board.

I am taking the view that this game stays well below the total of 46 on Monday night.

  • Chiefs +3 over Patriots

Patrick Mahomes looks to be back at 100% and that spells bad news for the rest of the AFC. What was meant to be a showdown for the AFC Western Division last week turned into the Chiefs routing the Raiders 40-9.

The Chiefs are in a great position as they travel to New England and try to knock off the Patriots Sunday afternoon. The Pats defense has been stout all season but could offer little resistance as the Texans scored 4 TD’s against them last Sunday night.

I’m not buying the “Tom Brady is done” talk, it’s just that he’s had so few healthy weapons to work and their running attack has been below average. Barring another monsoon, like the Pats-Browns and Pat-Cowboys games, I think it’s the right time for the Chiefs to avenge their AFC Championship loss with an outright win over the Patriots in Foxboro.

  • BILLS +6 over Ravens

At some point, the Ravens must come back down to earth, right?

After beating the Patriots at home in Week 9, they have subsequently destroyed the Bengals, Texans, and Rams but needed a field goal as time expired to beat the 49ers last week.

Maybe they are slowing down but that’s a big “maybe. The Ravens are a hard team to bet against, but I will take my chances that the Bills can do some damage this Sunday.

Speaking of coming back down to the earth, the Bills raced to a 3-0 start and are flying high at 9-3. They will have had 10 days to bask in the afterglow of their dominant win in Dallas on Thanksgiving.

This will be a great matchup of 2 AFC playoff teams, and I think the Bills will keep this one close to cover the 6-point spread.

Jersey Sides & Totals: Thanksgiving Thursday Football – Bird is the Word

It’s a shorter week with Thanksgiving football upon us this Thursday, so I will focus on the 3 NFL games scheduled.

Thanksgiving is the original “Thursday Night Football” with NFL games scheduled every Turkey Day since 1920.

Thanksgiving Football History

The mainstay of Thanksgiving Day football is the Detroit Lions.

  • The Lions have hosted a game on Thanksgiving every year since 1945.
  • The Lions last NFL title was in 1957 and they’ve never appeared in a Super Bowl.

Despite this, they have provided some truly memorable Thanksgiving moments. Let’s flash back to 1997 with Barry Sanders running roughshod all over the Bears:

The Dallas Cowboys hosted their first Thanksgiving game in 1970 and they follow the Lions early game with a mid-afternoon kickoff.

While there are some epic Cowboys games from Thanksgiving including the Leon Lett play and the Clint Longley comeback, but I’ve included the 1994 Cowboys game against the Green Bay Packers.

Amazing to watch this clip 25 years later. So much to see here. John Gruden as a Packers assistant coach. Reggie White in the backfield on almost every play.

An injured Troy Aikman wearing a “Planet Hollywood” jacket on the sidelines.

To top it off, current Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett leading a second-half comeback and a Dallas win:

Thanksgiving Football Lineup

  1. 12:30 PM: Bears at Lions (CBS)
  2. 4:30 PM: Bills at Cowboys (FOX)
  3. 8:20 PM: Saints at Falcons (NBC)

New Jersey bettors will be able to wager on all three (3) of the Thanksgiving games on DraftKings Sportsbook, both online and via their mobile app.

For Thanksgiving, DraftKings is giving everyone a free $5 bet when they opt-in:

DraftKings Sportsbook nj

draftkings promo thanksgivingIn addition to the free bet, DraftKings also has three (3) other Thanksgiving promotional offers:

  1. A risk free $5 Flash Bet (bet on result of drive or next team to score) on any Thanksgiving game.
  2. Place 3-team team parlay on Thanksgiving games with a 33% profit boost (equivalent on an extra leg at -300 odds)
  3. Bet $25+ on the point total of any Thanksgiving game and receive a bonus of $5 for every turnover and $1 sack in that game.

DraftKings Thanksgiving Football Props

DraftKings has a full plate of team and player and team props, parlays and specials available for all 3 games. Also, check out their new “stats” feature offered for each game.

It’s a great tool to add to your handicapping with great trends and information. I’ve taken a deeper dive at some stats and trends via Draft Kings for each of Thursday’s games.

Bears (-3) at Lions

The Lions (3-7-1) have covered the spread in 5 of their last 7 Thanksgiving games.

That said, 2019 has been a challenging one for the Honolulu Blue and Silver. Starting QB Mathew Stafford has broken bones in his back and may not return this season.

Back-up Jeff Driskel took over for Stafford in week 10 and lost at Chicago in his first start for the Lions. Driskel also reportedly has a sore hamstring and his playing status is up in the air for Thursday.

The Lions 3rd string option is rookie David Blough who has never taken an NFL snap.

  • Sharp money has moved the spread from Bears (5-6) -1 to -3 favorites in the last 24 hours.

draftkings promo thanksgiving

In terms of key betting trends:

  • DraftKings note that the Bears are 3-8-0 (Over/Under/Push) but have gone under in their last 5 games.
  • The Lions are 7-4-0 and have gone over in 3 of their last 5.

With a Chicago offense that is far from potent, coupled with the potential of an injured 2nd string or a 3rd string rookie QB facing the Bears defense, I think it’s worth it’s work giving the UNDER a long look here.

Bills (+6.5) at Dallas

The Cowboys (6-5) may still be drying out after their soggy loss to the Patriots in Foxboro on Sunday. They begin their final 5 games of the season with a slim 1-game lead in the NFC East over the Eagles.

The Cowboys are 2-2 at home this year and face an upstart Bills (8-3) team that has exceeded all expectations this year.

The Bills are anchored by a ferocious defense that has allowed the 3rd fewest points in the NFL (1. Patriots; 2. 49ers) and have received solid performances from 2nd year QB Josh Allen and ageless RB Frank Gore.

A noteworthy historical trend is the Cowboys are 1-3 against the spread in their last 4 Thanksgiving games and the total has gone OVER in 3 of the last four (4) Dallas Thanksgiving Day Games.

The DraftKings Sportsbook stats hub neatly summarizes each team’s 2019 performance in a concise, side-by-side comparison:

thanksgiving dallas bills

There is also a drop-down menu that allows the bettor to select trends since 2010, very well done by DK!

Saints (-6.5) at Falcons

The Saints and Falcons stage a divisional rematch after the Falcons shocked the Saints with a 26-9 in New Orleans in Week 10.

While logic might point to an offensive shootout when these 2 Dome teams play each other, recent history suggests otherwise as 4 of the last 5 meetings have gone under the total.

For those that like to isolate and bet individual quarters and/or halves, DK has a great feature in their stats portal that isolates a team’s performance by quarter.

Below, I have highlighted the quarter by quarter performance of both the Saints and Falcons since the start of the 2018 season:

draftkings promo thanksgiving

There are some really great features on the DraftKings stats portal that are all well worth checking out before placing your bets.

The NFL Local Line

While none of the three (3) local teams will be playing on Thanksgiving, they are all in action this Sunday. The Jets will try to win their 4th straight game when they visit the winless Bengals in Cincinnati.

The Giants will play their second consecutive NFC North opponent when they host the Green Bay Packers and, given their performances at home over the last 2 weeks, the Eagles will gladly welcome a change in scenery as they visit the Miami Dolphins.

Here are the current local betting lines as of Thursday afternoon via DraftKings:

  1. Jets: -3.5 (-115) at Bengals +3.5 (-106), Total 41.5
    • Jets Money line:  -186; Bengals +150
  2. Eagles: -9 (-110) at Dolphins +9 (-110); Total 45
    • Eagles Money line:  -435; Dolphins +330
  3. Giants: +6.5 (-110) vs Packers -6.5 (-110); Total 46.5
    • Giants Money line: +225 Packers -286

After the 3 Thanksgiving games, Sunday’s schedule feature eight (8) 1PM starts and three (3) 4PM window games. The BYE weeks are over, with every NFL team in action in week 13.

My 3 Picks – from the Jersey Side

I had a decent bounce back last week going 2-1. The Broncos failed to bounce back from their 2nd half meltdown in Minnesota in week 11 and were totally dominated by the Bills.

The Jets won convincingly, and the Steelers won a battle of punts and field goals with an easy UNDER the total against the Bengals.

My Week 12 Recap

Week 2-1, Season YTD 15-20-1

  1. BRONCOS (+4) over Bills (Bills 20, BRONCOS 3)
  2. JETS +3 over the Raiders (JETS 34, Raiders 3)
  3. Steelers and Bengals UNDER 39 Points (Steelers 16, Bengals 10)

My Week 13 Thanksgiving Day Selections

Here are my picks for the 3 Thanksgiving Day games:

  • Bears and Lions UNDER 38.5

This total line has crept lower during the week. The Bears managed only 19 points vs the Giants last week and the Lions were able to score only 1 touchdown vs the redskins last week.

Add in the questions this week around the Lions QB situation and a fierce Bears defense and the under almost looks like stealing money on Thursday afternoon.

  • Bills (+6.5) over Cowboys

The Bills have adopted a “Why Not Us” approach as they gear up for the final 5 games of the season. At 8-3 they trail the Patriots by 2 games in the division, but they have a 2-game lead in the AFC Wild card race.

The Bills stout defense that will face a Dallas offense has looked both potent and anemic at various points of this season. I will look at the consistency of the Bills to keep this game within reach and to cover the spread against the Cowboys.

  • Saints (-6.5) over Falcons

The Falcons teased their fans with back-to-back convincing road wins against the Saints and Panthers only to return home last Sunday to lose to the Buccaneers.

They will have their hands full with a Saints team looking for revenge from their week 10 loss at home to the Falcons.

I can’t see the Falcons beating the Saints twice this year in the same season and look for a dominant Saints win on Sunday.

Some interesting Thanksgiving NFL facts of note:

  1. While Dallas began their regular hosting of a Thanksgiving Day game in 1970, they were replaced on the schedule by the St. Louis Football Cardinals in 1975 and 1977.
  2. Every NFL team has played on Thanksgiving Day at least once, except for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have played in London seven (7) times but have yet to play on Turkey Day.
  3. Outside of the Jaguars, the Los Angeles Rams have the longest Thanksgiving gap with their last appearance coming in 1975 and the Browns since 1989.

Jersey Sides & Totals: Patriots Vs. Eagles Game Gets A Lot Of Attention At BetMGM

The Philadelphia Eagles are the underdogs against the New England Patriots. Here are BetMGM’s best bets and odds for Patriots vs. Eagles.

When the New England Patriots hit Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sunday, it will have been 651 days since both teams met in the 2018 Super Bowl.

While this rematch is seemingly worthy of a prime-time Sunday night slot, the game was not originally scheduled by NBC or “flex scheduled” into the Sunday Night Football slot.

So it maintains its original 4:25 p.m. slot. (Sunday Night viewers will see the Bears visiting the Rams in Los Angeles.)

In the 21 months since the Eagles Super Bowl 52 win over New England, the Patriots have continued their “business as usual” dominance of the 2000s. They won Super Bowl 53 in February 2019 and raced to an 8-1 start this season.

The Eagles, on the other hand, struggled through a challenging 2019 first-half schedule at 3-4 but have won their last two games and a victory over the Patriots on Sunday puts them in first place in the NFC East.

Memories of a Super Bowl win

While the task at hand for the Eagles is to win on Sunday, for Eagles fans, it’s still great to look back a little in the rearview mirror at the momentous 2018 Super Bowl victory.

There were many epic plays that contributed to the Eagles win, including Zac Ertz’ catch and goal-line stretch for a TD and Brandon Graham’s strip-sack of Tom Brady

The most memorable though? Head coach Doug Pederson’s “Philly Philly” fourth down play call at the end of the second quarter:

The key pieces from the Eagles “Philly Philly” play have now moved on to other teams, with tight-end Trey Burton in Chicago and Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles set to return from an opening week injury to start this weekend for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While Foles is no longer an Eagle, he will always maintain sports legend status in Philadelphia. He will also stand in bronze forever in the “Philly Philly” statue memorialized at Lincoln Financial Field:

NFL betting trends for Patriots vs. Eagles

Looking at this Sunday, the scheduling of the game is notable as both teams are coming off a bye week.

Since Pederson become the Eagles coach in 2016, the Eagles are 2-2 straight up and against the spread following a bye week. In the same time frame, the Patriots are 5-1 straight up and ATS off a break.

Here are some other key betting trends worth noting this week for Patriots vs. Eagles:

Eagles betting trends

  • Under is 14-6 in last 20 games following a bye week.
  • Under is 6-1 in the last seven games following a straight up win.
  • Under is 12-5 in the last 17 home games.
  • Over is 6-2 in the last eight games vs. a team with a winning record.
  • 6-2 ATS in their last eight games following a straight-up win.

Patriots betting trends

  • Over is 6-1 in the last seven games following a bye week.
  • Under is 15-6 in the last 21 games overall.
  • Under is 5-1 in the last six road games.
  • Under is 4-0 in the last four games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game.
  • Under is 13-3 in the last 16 games following a straight up loss.
  • 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games following an ATS loss.
  • 12-5 ATS in their last 17 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
  • 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games.

My three picks for NFL Week 11

Last weekend was an absolute shellacking for me.

The Alabama-LSU was “over” by early in the third quarter. The Giants came back to take the lead vs. the New York Jets but couldn’t hold to get the win in the battle of New York/New Jersey.

And Brian Hoyer wasn’t able to stop doing “Brian Hoyer things” as the Indianapolis Colts (with no help from kicker Adam Vinatieri) lost outright to the Miami Dolphins at home.

My Week 10 recap

Week 0-3, Season YTD 13-16-1

  • Alabama vs LSU – UNDER 63.5 Points (LSU 46, Alabama 41)
  • GIANTS (-2.5) over Jets (Jets 34, GIANTS 27)
  • COLTS (-10) over the Dolphins (Dolphins 16, COLTS 12)

My Week 11 NFL picks

This weekend’s schedule features eight 1 p.m. starts and three 4 p.m. window games. Here are my picks for this week:

VIKINGS (-10.5) over Broncos

The Vikings come off a huge Sunday night win in Dallas to return home against the Denver Broncos.

As well as the Vikings played on the road against the Cowboys, they are an even better team playing at home. The Vikes are 4-0 at home while outscoring their opponents 119-55.

The Broncos are coming off a bye week, which gives new QB Brandon Allen more time to acclimate to the offense since taking over for injured Joe Flacco in the Week 9 win over the Browns.

Allen performed admirably in the win, but it’s hard to envision the Broncos doing much offensively, having scored 16, 16, 1 and 20 points in their four road games thus far.

I look for the Vikings to keep things rolling on Sunday with an easy win over the Broncos.

RAIDERS (-10.5) over Bengals

The Oakland Raiders are quietly one of the surprise teams of the 2019 NFL season.

They endured a brutal first half schedule that included a trip to London and only three of their nine games played in Oakland. The outlook continues to brighten this Sunday as they welcome a winless Cincinnati Bengals team to the Black Hole.

The Bengals have committed themselves to the future with rookie Ryan Finley replacing nine-year vet Andy Dalton. The Bengals were outmatched in every phase of the game last Sunday at home against the Ravens.

It’s difficult to think much will improve this weekend. The only drama left in their season is whether they will win a game and then moving on to whom they will draft with their #1 pick next spring.

Eagles and Patriots OVER 44.5 Points

The Eagles combo of Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders should be able to run with some success against the Patriots. On the other side of the ball, though depleted in the receiving core, the Patriots still have enough options in Julian Edelman, Phillip Dorsett and the recently acquired Mohammed Sanu to keep the pressure on the Eagles sometimes shaky secondary.

I don’t see this one as a “shootout” per se, but there’s a chance this one ends up as a 28-24 final. The over is a good bet for this Sunday.

Jersey Sides & Totals: LSU Faces Alabama And NJ Sportsbooks Are Ready For Action

Considered a big game in NCAA football, LSU vs. Alabama is the centerpiece of this weekend’s football action. What are the odds at 888 Sportsbook in NJ?

Week 10 of NFL betting also coincides with a great weekend of college football.

The NFL caps off the weekend with two great prime time matchups, the Vikings at Cowboys on Sunday and the Seahawks at 49ers on Monday.

Locally, while the Eagles are on a bye week, we have the battle of New York/New Jersey with the Jets and Giants facing off at MetLife Stadium.

We will touch on the Jets-Giants matchup later in the column, but let’s take a glance at where the college football season stands as we head to a big Saturday of action.

College football: Where things stand in Week 11 of NCAA action

As the college football season reaches Week 11, there are seven schools that are still undefeated:

  • Alabama
  • Baylor
  • Clemson
  • LSU
  • Minnesota
  • Ohio State
  • Penn State

All these teams were featured in the initial college football rankings published earlier this week:

The top four ranked schools feature two from Big 10 and two from SEC with nine of the top 14 from either of the two conferences.

These initial rankings will be updated weekly until the Final Four will be announced on Dec. 8 for the national semi-final playoffs on Dec. 28 and the championship game on Jan. 13, 2020.

So what makes this Saturday so special?

Well, Saturday features games with four of the seven undefeated teams going head-to-head, with Penn State (#4) at Minnesota (#17) and LSU (#2) visiting Tuscaloosa to face Alabama (#3).

LSU vs. Alabama

The LSU vs. Alabama matchup doesn’t have quite a “game of the century” billing, but it’s a huge game. The team that loses the game will likely drop out of the top four and will need a few breaks to make it back into the playoff picture.

Here are the current LSU-Alabama odds via 888 Sportsbook in NJ (as of Nov. 8):

  • Point Spread: Alabama -6.5
  • Points Total: 62
  • Moneyline: LSU: +185, Alabama: -250

Diving deeper into this game, here are some trends related to the LSU-Alabama battle:

Who leads the LSU vs. Alabama football series?

Alabama leads the series between the two schools, 53-25-5. The Crimson Tide have won the last eight meetings vs LSU, including shutouts in both 2016 and 2018.

Other relevant LSU vs Alabama trends?

Since the college football playoff era began in 2014, Alabama is 39-1 straight up as a home favorite, but only 18-22 against the spread.

Since 2007, Alabama is 15-8-1 vs. the spread off a bye week under head coach Nick Saban.

LSU is 6-0 against the spread as an underdog since Ed Orgeron took over as the full-time head coach in 2017. The Tigers are also 3-0 against the spread as a road underdog.

And to really get you in the mood for this big game, here are some other tidbits via Chris “The Bear” Fallica of ESPN:

Betting on college football vs betting on the NFL

When it comes to betting on the LSU vs. Alabama game and college football in general, each of the 17 New Jersey sportsbook apps offer betting opportunities.

But I do want to note some of the differences between betting college football vs betting the NFL, most notably:

  1. College games tend to be higher scoring. For example, the LSU-Bama total is currently at 62 points, whereas NFL total point over/under ranges will be in the high 30s to mid-high 40s.
  2. A factor also contributing to the noted higher scoring is the overtime structure in college football, with each team starting overtime with the ball at the opposition’s 25-yard line. It’s not uncommon for a game to go to three or more OT’s, contributing potentially 30+ points to the final score total.
  3. While the NFL has a multitude of team and player betting props for scoring and yardage, there are dramatically fewer options available for college games.

888 Sports and LSU vs. Alabama odds: a closer look

For the LSU vs. Alabama game, let’s look at a few of the options available via 888 Sports:

888 offers a prop on the first team to score as well as individual over/under totals for both schools:

888 sportsbook nj lsu vs alabama odds

It should be a great NCAA football game in Alabama on Saturday, with so much riding on this game for both schools.

Giants vs. Jets odds at 888 Sportsbook

Once the dust settles after a long afternoon of college football on Saturday, there is the NFL and the battle of New York/New Jersey as the Jets “host” the Giants at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.

While both teams face each other every year in the pre-season, the scheduling rotation currently yields a matchup once every four years, and the Jets-Giants have met just 13 times during the regular season, with the last meeting in 2015.

The Giants lead the all-time regular-season series 8-5 with the teams splitting the two matchups since MetLife Stadium opened in 2011.

Both teams are coming off of ugly losses in Week 9, with the Giants game highlighted by the appearance of a black cat.

Keeping with the “cat” theme, everyone is having fun in advance of this game on Sunday:

With this once-every-four-years regular-season game between the 2-7 Giants and 1-7 Jets, is it fair to consider if this is the worst Jets-Giants matchup ever? Or will it spark some memorable Giants vs. Jets moments?

In terms of betting this game, the Giants are favored by 2.5 points, with a total of 43.5 points. “Triple 8” offers props around the first team to score and the first scoring play of the game:

giants vs. jets odds at 888 sportsbook nj

888sport also has props related to touchdowns; please note that the Jets will be the “Home Team:”

There is also prop wagering for the race to selected point totals:

Be sure to check back with 888 Sports closer to both game days for all of your college football and NFL bets. As always, things and lines can change in the blink of an eye.

The NFL local line: Eagles, Jets and Giants in Week 10

Here are the current local lines as of Friday afternoon via 888:

  • Moneyline: Giants -165; Jets +135
  • Eagles: BYE WEEK

My three NFL Week 10 picks (from the Jersey Side)

Hopefully, I’m back on the winning track, with a 2-0-1 week last Sunday.

It wasn’t a pretty one, but the Eagles managed to grind out a win (and cover) over the Chicago Bears.

The Jets and Dolphins lit up the scoreboard in the first half, relatively speaking, and the Seahawks scored a TD in overtime to push against a 6-point spread (though this number was as low as -4 by game time) vs the road-weary Tampa Bay Buccaneers

My NFL Week 9 recap

Week 2-0-1, Season YTD 13-13-1

  • EAGLES (-5) over Bears (EAGLES  22, Bears 14)
  • JETS and DOLPHINS over 20 Points in first Half (Dolphins 21- Jets 12 at Half-time)
  • SEAHAWKS (-6) over Buccaneers (SEAHAWKS 40, Buccaneers 34; PUSH)

While I don’t do it every weekend, I had a good feeling about my picks last week and was able to convert that into collecting on a nice little three-team parlay:

My Week 10 NFL picks

With six NFL teams on bye week, that means three fewer games on this week’s schedule.

There are seven 1 p.m. starts, and three 4 p.m. window games on this week’s slate. Here are my picks for this week:

LSU vs. Alabama – UNDER 63.5 Points

Keeping with the theme of this week’s column, I decided to add the biggest college football game of the week as part of my three picks.

There are so many questions in the LSU-Bama game, with one of the primary ones centering on the health of Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa, who had ankle surgery 20 days ago.

This might lead to a more conservative game plan for Bama, focusing more on running than passing, grinding out drives, and burning time on the clock.

Of course, this game wouldn’t surprise me if it ended in a 42-40 shootout, but I just think 63.5 points is too high of a total. I see Bama prevailing in a 31-24 score, falling UNDER the total of 63.5.

GIANTS (-2.5) over Jets

It’s tough to pick a side this game, but I will go with the Giants because Giants rookie QB Daniel Jones has been marginally better than Jets second-year QB Sam Darnold.

Also, after two low-scoring offenses (Jaguars, Dolphins) threw the ball all over the yard against the Jets secondary in the last two weeks, I give a further edge to “Danny Dimes” and Big Blue this Sunday.

COLTS (-10) over the Dolphins

Now that the Dolphins have recorded their first win and avoided a potentially winless season, maybe there isn’t much to play for.

While the Fins have looked relatively resurgent over the last few weeks with Ryan Fitzpatrick, they will face a stiff challenge when they head to Lucas Oil Stadium to face the Colts. The Colts, while banged up and potentially having to start Brian Hoyer at QB, are still a much better team.

The Colts have a lot to play for, as they are in second place in a bunched AFC South, trailing the Houston Texans by a half-game for the division lead. I expect the Colts to beat the Dolphins comfortably at home on Sunday.
