Jersey Sides & Totals For NFL Week 3: How’s Your Team’s Quarterback Doing?

With so many NFL QBs on the injured list, Week 3 isn’t going to be easy for NJ sports betting fans but here’s more from FanDuel, Resorts, and Unibet.

When the dust settled after the Browns-Jets game Monday night, many NFL betting fans were left in a tailspin.

After all, NFL Week 3 begins with the loss of legacy quarterbacks Drew Brees (Saints) for at least six weeks and Ben Roethlisberger (Steelers) for the season after elbow surgery.

Digging a little deeper, it’s not clear if Cam Newton is completely healthy in Carolina, the Jets lost Sam Darnold last Thursday to mono, then back-up Trevor Siemian went down Monday for the year against the Browns, and now have third-stringer Nick Falk starting this week against the Patriots.

Additionally, the Eli Manning (as a starter) era ended in East Rutherford as Daniel Jones takes over the starting reigns, and there was already Nick Foles going down in Week 1.

And just like that, you have five+ different starting QB’s in Week 3 from opening week. Yikes.

With all of these changes, there’s a lot to sort out for Week 3 in a short amount of time for both oddsmakers and bettors alike. Many teams can’t wait for their bye week to heal up on their injuries, which begin in Week 4 for the Jets and 49ers.

As we look ahead to Week 3, some of the questions I’m considering:

  • How lopsided will the Patriots (vs Jets) and Cowboys (vs Dolphins) games be?
  • Can the Buffalo Bills win outside of MetLife Stadium?
  • Are 2-0 teams like the Ravens, Packers, 49ers, and Seahawks really this good?
  • Are 0-2 teams like the Panthers, Broncos, and Jaguars really this bad?

Putting it all together for New Jersey bettors, there are 10 retail sportsbooks and, with the launch of Unibet last week, now 17 sports betting apps to choose from.

Each week, this column highlights up to three New Jersey sportsbooks and will take a deeper dive into the promos, props, and specials that you should be aware of heading into the weekend’s NFL football action.

For Week 3, I am looking at Unibet NJ, Resorts Sportsbook, and FanDuel Sportsbook.

The new kid on the block: Unibet

Unibet is one of 11 brand names under the umbrella of online casino operator Kindred Group. In addition to its launch in New Jersey last week, the Unibet brand is present in 20 other countries.

Unibet’s sportsbook app is part of an overall NJ online casino gaming offering. So there is only one specific promo related to football called the $100k pigskin parlay:

pigskin parlay unibet sportsbook nj

This is a promotion to pay attention to if you like to play NFL parlays.

Place a minimum $10 and a six-team parlay. If all the teams cover the spread by an additional 9.5 points each, there is a $100,000 payout on top of the base parlay winnings.

This is interesting as it gets one to think if the Patriots (-22.5) can beat the Jets by 33 points or conversely, can the Dolphins (+21.5) stay within 12 points of the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday? Not a bad way to invest a $10 stake.

There are some future bets listed on Unibet, at current, but it’s standard fare, with listed AFC/NFC champions and pricing for individual division winners:

unibet sports app team props

There are no MVP, defensive player of the year, or rushing leader props, which is odd. The only current player prop is for offensive rookie of the year:

Looking at Week 3 game matchups, the Unibet menu features 80+ wagering options for each game with the player props and the betting options expected to increase as we build toward Sunday:

Unibet has a unique take on the margin of victory point totals, as shown below for the Jets vs Patriots game, with 13-1 odds for the Pats to win by 43 points or more:

There are also props for highest-scoring quarter and half, and for the race to various totals:

Settle in for a short ride at Resorts

The Resorts land-based sportsbook features DraftKings as the brand operator. In its online space, the Resorts sports betting portal is powered by SBTech and is part of an overall casino gaming menu.

They aren’t one of the big dogs on the sportsbook campus, but Resorts still packs a punch in a few areas.

For instance, there’s a football pick ‘em handicapping contest with $40,000 in total prizes:

super pick em resorts sportsbook nj

While there are no specific NFL-related sport betting boosts or promotions, Resorts does offer a healthy bonus (bonus capped at $25k) for multi-leg parlays:

Resorts also has a player prop looking ahead to next year’s NFL Draft:

resorts casino sportsbook nfl draft 2020

For this NFL season, there is a prop for NFL MVP, with the current favorite and new State Farm spokesman Patrick Mahomes at +240:

The team future props are sparse, but there is pricing for each division winner:

The Resorts NFL Week 3 menu is pretty basic, with 50+ wagering types available:

Still, here’s a closer look at the Resorts odds for the Eagles vs Lions game at the Link this Sunday:

And a prop related to “overtime” complete with a unique spelling from Resorts:

Of course, there should be more bells and whistles added to the Resorts NFL menu (and Unibet) as we get closer to Sunday afternoon.

Scoring big with FanDuel Sportsbook

FanDuel has its base of retail operations at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford.

While its MetLife neighbors, the Jets and Giants, are winless thus far this year, FanDuel continues to knock it out of the park with multiple NFL wagering options and cool localized props.

Yes, they have the offensive rookie of the year prop bet, including new Giants starting QB Jones at a relatively short price of 7 -1:

With such a distinct difference right now between the “haves and have nots” in the NFL, FanDuel has props for the Patriots to stay undefeated and the Dolphins to remain winless in 2019:

patriots dolphins season odds fanduel nfl

Beyond the obvious Pats and Dolphins extremes, I note the props for two local teams.

For instance, FanDuel asks a good question: When will the Jets win their first game?

ny jets first win odds fanduel nj sports betting

FanDuel views the situation with the Giants (0-2) perhaps not as dire as the Jets. As such, there are a prop posting odds for Jones to live up to his #6 overall draft hype in 2019 and resurrect Big Blue’s fortunes

ny giants playoff odds fanduel

Outside of these local angles, FD also has a prop bet around when the now Big Ben-less Steelers will register their first victory of 2019:

steelers first win odds nfl betting fanduel

When it comes to individual game betting FD has an outstanding menu of wagering options including weekly fantasy point totals for select players.

FanDuel has also introduced the “same game parlay,” which is a great feature for those that have wanted to bet more than one prop in a single game.

FanDuel does limit the specific props that can be used, but there are many to choose from. Here is an example of a same game parlay ticket for this Sunday’s Lions vs Eagles game that includes moneyline, over/under, margin of victory, half-time/full-time and a quarter moneyline.

It’s a nice amount of game action:

same game parlay bet fanduel sportsbook nfl

FanDuel also offers teasers, a unique multi-leg bet that started years ago at Las Vegas sportsbooks offering the bettor the chance to adjust a game’s betting by 6-7 points, with fixed odds payouts based on the number of correct game selections.

Shown below are three examples of a three-team teaser using the Colts, Ravens, and Browns with adjusted pricing based on the 3-point spread options of +6, +6.5 and +7 points:

teaser spreads fanduel nfl betting

Well played, FanDuel. Basically, this New Jersey sports betting app continues to push to offer its customers an extensive wagering menu.

The local line: Jets, Giants, Eagles

In looking ahead to the local-regional teams of NY and PA, here are the current Week 3 lines as of Thursday morning (Sept. 19) via FanDuel:

  • Giants +6.5 (-110) vs Buccaneers, Total of 48
  • Eagles -6.5 (-110) vs Lions, Total of 46
  • Jets +22.5 (-120) vs Patriots, Total of 44

Looking ahead to Sunday

After starting Week 1 at 3-0, things derailed a bit for me in Week 2 after Big Ben was lost for the season and the Steelers lost the game.

The Texans were all out to beat the Jags and didn’t come close to covering as a 9-point favorite. I righted the ship Sunday night with a contrarian “under” play cashing in the Eagles vs Falcons game.

Week 2 recap

Record Week 2: 1-2

Season YTD: 4-2

  • Eagles at Falcons: Total Points 52.5 – UNDER (Result: Falcons 24-Eagles 20; TOTAL 44)
  • Texans -9 over Jaguars (Result: Texans 13-Jaguars 12)
  • Steelers -4 over Seahawks (Result: Seahawks 28-Steelers 26)

NFL Week 3 picks

Both the Cowboys and Patriots enter this week as 20+ point favorites. I can’t consider these games, so instead I will sit back and watch other action.

PACKERS -8 vs Broncos

I’m looking for the Packers offense to get untracked and start to click in Week 3. In the Mile High City, I’m concerned with Vic Fangio’s conservative approach and with Joe Flacco’s ability to put Broncos points on the board.

COLTS -2 vs Falcons

The Luck-less Colts have started a gritty 1-1 with their first two games on the road. They draw a Falcons team that is just not the same team away from home and will be challenged to stop the Colts ground game led by Marlon Mack.

BILLS -6 over Bengals

With their season opener in Orchard Park, the Bills Mafia will be out in full force imploring their home team to a win and an unexpected 3-0 start.

As competitive as the Bengals looked in Week 1 in Seattle, they really took a step backward last week at home vs the surging 49ers. I think last week is more indicative of the Bengals fortunes in 2019, with the Bills to roll to victory this Sunday.

Jersey Sides And Totals: Don’t Overreact With NFL Week 2 Up Ahead

For Week 2 of NFL season, we take a closer look at PointsBet, BetMGM and the newcomer theScore Bet and what NJ online sportsbook specials they have on tap.

It was great to see the NFL back and in full force last weekend.

As always, reflecting on the results yields questions that may not be resolved in Week 2 if not much later in the season.

In any case, here are some of my top-line thoughts:

  • Are the Patriots this good?
  • Are the Dolphins this bad?
  • Who are the Cleveland Browns?
  • Is Todd Gurley 100%?
  • Why were the Texans playing a “Prevent Defense” up 1 point with 40 seconds left to play?

As we dive into Week 2, it’s always important to not overreact to what happened during Week 1.

That’s the puzzle within sports betting to determine the myths versus reality. Forming an opinion on a game, a team, or a trend based on doing your homework is essential and placing and cashing a wager on your homework is a great feeling.

For all in New Jersey, there’s plenty of betting hub options.

Several NJ sportsbooks raced to refresh their apps before the start of the NFL season, including BetMGMBorgata, and William Hill

TheScore betting app officially launched last week, and Unibet launched this week, bringing the number of NJ sports betting apps to 17.

In fact, there are enough apps for a New Jersey bettor to use a different one each week of the NFL regular season.

As I will do each week, this column will highlight up to three New Jersey sportsbooks and take a closer look at the promos, props, and specials that you should be aware of heading into the weekend’s football action.

For Week 2, I am looking at PointsBet, BetMGM, and theScore Bet.

Plenty of options at PointsBet

PointsBet made headlines Week 1 when a bettor used the points betting option to accrue cash as the Baltimore Ravens crushed the Dolphins, to the tune of $600,000.

I will spare you a long dissertation of explaining how points betting works here, so we will focus on the “standard” NFL betting opportunities that are available on PointsBet NJ sportsbook.

First off, PointsBet offers a cool promo rewarding bettors whose team scores first in Thursday’s or Monday’s games:

pointsbet nj sportsbook promo

Looking locally, PointsBet is offering local promos for the Jets, Giants, and Eagles games with a $6 bonus for every touchdown scored:

pointsbet make it rain promo nj

Each week, PointsBet offers customized team parlays with corresponding odds boosts:

pointsbet nfl odds boost nj

In addition to the team parlays offered above, there are also some customized player props available:

pointsbet custom player props new jersey

Keep in mind that you can also tweet to @PointsBetUSA to suggest ideas for any props that aren’t available.

In addition to the wide range of promos and props, PointsBet offers 70+ bet types on NFL game lines and totals:

pointsbet nj sportsbook

In addition to these traditional baseline bets, PointsBet also offers wagers on areas, such as:

  • Quarterback completion percentage.
  • Player rushing yards and player receiving yards.
  • Time of first touchdown (in seconds).

All things considered, there’s a ton of action for you to choose from on PointsBet.

What can BetMGM do for you in Week 2?

Prior to Week 1 of the NFL season, MGM rebranded its app … and gave it a new look and platform upgrade. BetMGM includes “NJ” as part of the branding refresh.

All season long, BetMGM is offering a Bet $10, Get $10 promotion in which the bettor will get a $10 free bet for any upcoming game on the schedule:

betmgm nfl betting

But I think the real headline with BetMGM NJ is its “Edit My Bet” feature that allows you to change any straight or parlay bet that has the cash-out option available.

For example, if you are hyped about how your team played in the first quarter, this BetMGM feature allows you to increase your bet size during the action.

Here’s more direct from the app:

sports betting nj betmgm nfl

And speaking of parlays, BetMGM offers some pre-set “geographic” team double parlays for this week:

betmgm team parlays nfl

There are times, however, where BetMGM has a lapse that reminds us that they aren’t always up to 2019 standards.

Case in point: Below is a listed prop for this weekend’s Buffalo BillsNY Giants game. The sides are inexplicably listed as Team 1 and Team 2.

betmgm ny giants nfl betting

Overall, there are some nice adds to the MGM offering, specifically the “Edit a Bet” feature. That said, there are always more opportunities to improve and add the scale and depth of props and promos.

How to score with TheScore sportsbook

TheScore Bet app launched just before Week 1 of the NFL kicked off.

It is a Canada-based sports information app that has a sleek, user-friendly design. Its sports betting app in New Jersey is a mirror image in format and design.

TheScore offers subscribers the opportunity to seamlessly switch from the news and information app to the betting app.

For example, let’s say you’ve just read the news on theScore that Sam Darnold is out on Monday night versus the Cleveland Browns. So, you could then quickly click on theScore Bet icon embedded in the Browns-Jets game details to make a wager on the game:

thescore bet sportsbook new jersey

In terms of promotions, theScore Bet is offering an NFL promotion this week, awarding a $20 bet for anyone that bets a four-plus leg parlay:

thescore sportsbook nfl parlay bet

With a news and information hub as a backdrop, theScore sportsbook app delivers up-to-date stats and game information to help further educate the bettor.

An example below as it relates to injuries for Sunday night’s Eagles-Falcons game:

eagles falcons thescore sportsbook nj

There is also a very handy stat-line statistical comparison of key offensive and defensive match-up categories:

thescore bet new jersey nfl bets

With all this great news and statistical information as a base, theScore Bet does fall a bit flat on its menu of current NFL betting options.

For example, the list of available wagering options for Thursday’s Panthers-Buccaneers is extremely slim.

Here is a “First Score Will Be” prop:

nfl betting thescore sportsbook

Also, if you are looking ahead to Sunday’s games and specifically the Giants-Bills game, as of midday Thursday, no props had yet to be posted.

TheScore needs to do better than this:

thescore prop bets nfl football

Right now, theScore sportsbook is an excellent resource for pregame news, stats and information.

The options on the betting side of the equation right now are the equivalent of a “3 and Out” in NFL offensive parlance.

Other NJ sports betting promos of note

One other notable NFL promotion available this week is from DraftKings called the “Overreaction Redo” where DraftKings will provide up to a $25 free bet for any futures bet placed this week.

It requires an “opt-in” with details below:

In looking ahead to the local NY and PA teams, here are the current Week 2 lines as of Thursday via PointsBet:

  • Giants +1.5 (-105) vs. Bills, a total of 43.5
  • Eagles -1.5 (-110) vs. Falcons, a total of 52.5
  • Jets (with Darnold out) +6.5 (-110) vs. Browns, a total of 43.

Looking ahead to Sunday

To wrap up each column, I will be making three NFL picks.

Last week, after making my first three picks, I was quite content to finish at 2-1 as the Ravens and Vikings games were essentially over by halftime.

My third pick, the Redskins, were getting 10 points in Philly. The ‘skins raced to a 20-7 lead at halftime, only to be outscored 25-0 by the Eagles in the second half.

Cue a Case Keenum touchdown pass with 0:12 left in the fourth quarter that delivered the classic “back-door cover” for me:

Last week: 3-0; season year to date: 3-0

  • Redskins: +10 over Eagles (Eagles 32-Redskins 27)
  • Viking: -4 over Falcons (Viking 28-Falcons 12)
  • Raven: -6.5 over Dolphins (Ravens 59-Dolphins 10)

NFL Week 2 picks

Eagles at Falcons total points 52.5, under

Over the last five head-to-head meetings, the Eagles-Falcons have combined to score 50 points only once: a 26-24 Falcons win in Atlanta in 2015, with the previous three meetings yielding totals of 30, 25, and 39.

Texans -9 over Jaguars

The Texans play their home opener after suffering an excruciating last-second loss in New Orleans on Monday night.

They need to bounce back quickly and avoid an 0-2 start by beating the Jaguars who will now have to start rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew II with Philly legend Nick Foles out indefinitely with a broken collarbone.

Steelers -4 over Seahawks

The Steelers offense could not have looked any more inept last Sunday night, putting up a measly 3 points at New England.

The play is that they will rebound in this spot versus a Seahawk team that’s not as formidable away from their home field of screaming “12s.”

Jersey Sides & Totals: DraftKings Has NFL Odds Boosts But Bet365 Is All About Quantity

Here’s a weekly look at the best NFL bets and lines available at a selection of NJ online sports betting sites: DraftKings Sportsbook, Fox Bet, and Bet365.

Are you ready for some football?

The NFL season kicks off this Thursday in Chicago and college football season approaches its second full week of action.

That’s a lot of football, so you better be ready.

With 10 retail sportsbooks and now 15 apps firing on all cylinders, there is a lot to keep up with. Two weeks ago, Bet365 NJ “soft-launched” its mobile app.

And last week, Fox Bet NJ began rolling out what is its rebranding of the existing BetStars app.

In this weekly column, I will focus on up to three New Jersey sportsbooks and take a deeper dive at the promos, props, and specials that you should be aware of heading into the weekend’s action.

For the opening NFL weekend, I’m looking at what’s on offer from DraftKings Sportsbook, Bet365, and Fox Bet.

What’s what at DraftKings Sportsbook

With a full season of NFL sports betting under their belts, DraftKings comes out of the gate with a strong lineup of offers and promotions.

In addition to a full menu of lines for NFL Week 1, here are some promotions to be aware of on DraftKings.

There is a different “odds boost” each day this week, ending with the full kickoff on Sunday, Sept 8:

It’s still surprising to me how so few books in New Jersey take a localized approach. It’s very straightforward. NFL fans in the Garden State are likely to be fans of the Jets, Giants or Eagles, so why not give them a hook to pique their interest on the weekend? It’s not that hard.

DraftKings does a nice job of tailoring their promotions with a local “angle.”

In DraftKings’ week 1 “no brainer” promotion, a bettor either needs the Jets, Giants or Eagles to score a touchdown.

Easy money, right? Of course, but note that this offer is capped at a maximum $10 wager (to win $10):

DraftKings also is offering “NO VIG” NFL lines for week 1.

As a frame of reference, below is the current “VIG” lines in which a straight $25 point spread bet on the Eagles at -114 would win $22:

With “NO VIG” lines, the same $25 on the Eagles at +100 will pay $25:

One note, currently these “NO VIG” lines cannot be included as part of parlay bets.

Fox Bet has a lot of personality

Fox Bet has now rebranded the BetStars skin. The old BetStars NJ black-and-red color palette has been replaced with the blue-and-gold theme of Fox Bet.

Additionally, Fox Sports on-air personalities now adorn most of the promotional lineup on Fox Bet.

For the NFL, there are promotions tied to Fox Sports personalities Colin Cowherd and Clarissa Thompson:

While there aren’t any “local” promotions on offer, Fox Bet does have some unique game prop wagering opportunities.

Below are the prop lines for quarterback pass completions and running back rushing attempts for Green Bay vs Chicago:

fox bet nj online sportsbook nfl bets

Fox Bet also offers an extensive menu of “Custom Bets.”

These bets will vary game by game and week to week. If a bettor wants to suggest a prop that isn’t currently listed on the app, a tweet to Fox Bet using the hashtag #CustomBet will get their attention and a response.

Here are some of the custom bets in place for the Bears-Packers opening game on Thursday night:

fox bet custom bets nj sports betting

Don’t ignore the newbie Bet365

Bet365 is new to New Jersey. The British bookmaker launched in mid-August, just in time for the NFL season.

However, the current offers on Bet365 are more skewed to European football (i.e. soccer) than the NFL. The lone NFL bonus relates to an Early Payout offer, in which an early payout will be made if a team gains a 17-point lead:

Bet365 does offer American football action and tons of it, covering the NFL, NCAA football, and the Canadian Football League (CFL):

nj online sports betting bet365

If you’re an NFL bettor that likes to look beyond the standard spreads, lines, and totals, Bet365 NJ is worth checking out.

There is no shortage of “action” on offer within the NJ sportsbook app. The Thursday night opener features 130+ “markets” from which to choose from. It’s an extensive betting menu that would rival any New Jersey diner in terms of scale and variety.

Here’s a quick overview of the main props and score props featured for the Thursday NFL Bears-Packers opener:

bet365 new jersey sports betting app

Taking a closer look, there are some unique props to be found on Bet365. Here is the longest TD scored and total number of field goals:

nfl field goals lines bet365

Bet365 also has several props related to scoring frequency for each team and each half:

bet365 nj prop bets nfl

In a nutshell, there is something for everyone playing via the Bet365 app. Check it out and take the time to dig a little deeper in this new site to find a prop or price that might be playable for you.

I will be tracking both Bet365 and the rebranded FoxBet to observe how they evolve with other promotions and offers over the course of the season.

Looking ahead to Sunday

At the end of each weekly column, I will make three football selections that I will track over the course of the season.

A couple of years ago, I would have used the disclaimer “for entertainment purposes only.” Since I live in New Jersey, in addition to the “entertainment” part, I will also now be betting the games.

For this week, here are my picks:

REDSKINS +10 over Eagles

My heart is with the Eagles and, yes, the Eagles have won the last four head-to-head meetings vs the ‘Skins. But 10 points is still too much to lay on opening week vs a division rival.

VIKINGS -4 over Falcons

After going to the NFC title game in 2017, Minnesota took a step backward last year.

With a full year of Vikings offensive system under his belt, I expect Kirk Cousins to be better in 2019. Along with a healthy Dalvin Cook, I think the Vikes will come out firing on Sunday.

RAVENS -6.5 over Dolphins

This is more of a play against the Dolphins than for the Ravens.

The Dolphins are currently listed at DraftKings Sportsbook with a season win total of 4.5. The Ravens are fresh off an undefeated preseason, but more importantly, have an emerging star in year two QB Lamar Jackson.

It could be a long season in South Florida for the Fins.

Best of luck to everyone out there. Here’s to a profitable 2019 football season in NJ sports betting.

It’s A Feast Of College Football Bets At New Jersey Sportsbooks This Year

New Jersey sports betting apps are packed with NCAA football odds and specials, but where to start? Here’s a bird’s eye look at what’s available and where.

The 2019-2020 college football season had its “soft-opening” of sorts last weekend, with two games played on Saturday.

But the season officially gets underway this Labor Day weekend with Week 1. While the bulk of the games are on Saturday, there are also games scheduled Thursday (16x), Friday (7x), Sunday (1x), and Monday (1x).

That’s a lot of college football betting.

As the schools head into action this weekend, it’s not only time to prep for the slate of opening week games but to also make any season-long future wagers.

New Jersey sportsbooks will begin adjusting, revising, and in some cases, taking down the season-long props that are currently on the board.

The NJ sports bettor now has 16 apps to choose from (although TheScore Sportsbook and Bet365 are till in soft-launch mode). So it’s always good to shop around to see what’s out there from the various sportsbook offerings.

I have taken a closer look at all the NJ sports betting apps to offer my perspective on what’s currently available for the upcoming college football season. Here are my thoughts.

How to find college football odds at NJ sportsbooks

First, as a sports bettor, one does appreciate the sportsbooks that denote “College Football” as a standalone sports category in their wagering menus.

Sure, we can’t bet on Rutgers or Princeton games here in New Jersey, but with 125+ other schools in play, there’s no reason to lump it in together simply under “Football.”

Unfortunately, here are several examples of apps that will make you work to find college football lines.

Golden Nugget Sportsbook has college football (also known as “NCAAF”) listed in among its NFL line detail:

PlayMGM’s sportsbook lists college football under the catch-all “Football” header following the NFL and after Canadian football (Go, Blue Bombers) prop bets:

Over at 888 Sport, college football doesn’t manage to crack the “popular” listings the opening week of college football season:

Maybe it’s me, but it has to be easy to build a “College Football” header for betting menu listings, as illustrated below by DraftKings and FanDuel:

draftkings college betting
fanduel college football betting

And what about searching for college games?

Another small nit of mine is the current inability to build a “Search” option for each team or school in the betting app.

With 100+ schools in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision in action on any given September-November weekend, it’s a challenge to find the game(s) in a long list of betting line matchups sorted by start time.

So, I would love to see a “search” feature for a game or specific event for college football and all other events on the apps.

College betting odds and deals to look for in New Jersey

Whether you are an avid college football bettor, or you just like to follow a select school or conference, here are some promotions and odds that you should be aware of in the robust NJ sports betting app marketplace:

DraftKings has been offering a “Countdown to Kickoff” specifically for college football with eight days of different daily odds boosts leading up to Labor Day weekend:

If you haven’t taken advantage of that yet, don’t worry. There’s plenty more being offered by sportsbook apps this season.

Best futures odds for college football

In addition to season-long, over-under win totals that are offered across most NJ sportsbooks, I wanted to note some of the unique season-long futures offered by the books.

BetStars (soon to be Fox Bet) has a simple “Yes/No” prop for schools to make a bowl game:

Both playMGM and DraftKings apps are offering props on select teams with a straightforward “Yes/No” to make the college football playoffs in December:

PointsBet NJ takes a slightly different approach, with listed odds for select schools to “to not win the championship”:

DraftKings has posted a “Rivalry Special” prop for select schools to defeat their two main rival opponents:

Props bet specials and unique odds

When you look toward the NCAA Football National Championship, it’s extremely difficult to have any discussion around the potential 2019 finalists without including defending champion Clemson and perennial finalist, Alabama.

With this in mind, PointsBet has a series of prop specials for both Alabama and Clemson, including odds offered on Alabama “losing to a Tiger Mascot”:

Looking ahead to January 2020, FanDuel is offering a straightforward prop bet on a rematch of last year’s title game:

NCAA football week 1 odds

When it comes to the games this weekend, there’s a myriad to dive into.

Most NJ sportsbooks have done a great job by posting the opening spreads, sides, and totals as of Monday. Other offerings of first half/second half and quarters will be added/updated as the day of the games draws closer this weekend.

In fact, since it’s Thursday, you probably will see more odds already added for today’s games.

Golden Nugget Sports is an example of one app that has done a great job of early posting of the quarter and half lines for Saturday’s games:

Alternate point spreads are popular in NFL games and are beginning to become more widely offered for college games, too. DraftKings, for example, has a nice offering of alternative point spreads for this weekend’s games:

There is nothing more random than betting on whether the game will end with a total score that’s an odd or even number.

If you’re a player that likes the randomness of roulette, consider an odd/even totals bet. Golden Nugget has you covered here with a bevy of wagering options:

Bet365 NJ: A newcomer with a lot of action

Bet365 is the latest addition to the New Jersey sports betting landscape. To be fair, it’s still going through regulatory testing.

Launching just in time for football season, Bet365 is not shy about offering tons of action. They are in the mix for college football with several betting options not yet offered with other NJ sports betting apps.

Consider the “Race to (Points)” for the team to get to a score of 10 through 40 points as well as a simple “Yes/No” on the game going to overtime. Below is a screenshot of its standard menu of just some of its offerings this weekend:

You won’t be going hungry this year

There is no shortage of options for college football bettors in New Jersey. The examples I have posted have only scratched the surface of the futures and pregame betting markets.

Also, once the game kicks off, there will be live betting options offered by sportsbooks, so keep your phone charged and your eyes on the play-by-play action to make your best wagers.

But my humble betting advice around college football centers around a trend that was profitable for me last year.

Now, betting Alabama may not seem like the best place to find “value” in college football. After all, the moneyline will be -2000 or higher (if its even offered) most weekends and point spreads can be a tricky play based on how Nick Saban approaches the late third and fourth quarter (i.e., are the opening starters still playing, and will they be running the ball to kill the clock or still passing?).

As a player who likes to build parlays, there is value in considering including Alabama 1Q /1H on points and/or the moneyline. It was a successful angle last year, and I will plug it in this weekend when ‘bama opens versus Duke.

My “Final Four” prediction this year is really a “Final Two.”

With Clemson and Alabama meeting in three of the last four championship games, I will include those two to make the national championship, as well as Michigan and Georgia.

In the meantime, best of luck to all NJ bettors this college football season.
