Steelers Vs. Giants Odds: Will This Be Another Surprise Win For NY On Monday Night?

The New York Giants have had a few memorable Monday Night Football moments, but NJ sportsbook odds put NY as underdogs in this Steelers vs. Giants game.

There are a couple of ways to look at the New York Giants’ season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football.

One is the game, which concludes the opening week of the NFL Week 1 campaign. Note the unusual start time of 7 p.m. It is one of two Monday night games per NFL Week 1 tradition. The Denver Broncos later host the Tennessee Titans.

Two is the Monday Night Football flashback, a recollection of big nights for Big Blue on the big stage.

Let’s first take a look at Monday’s game, when the Steelers meet the Giants at their empty home stadium. No fans will be roaring at this MNF game.

Monday Night Football odds: NY Giants vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The top NJ sportsbook apps put the Giants as underdogs to the might of Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers. Last updated at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11.

Steelers QB the focus of betting action

Pittsburgh opened as 3.5-point favorites for the game at MetLife Stadium.

That shot up to 5.5 at many New Jersey sportsbooks, including DraftKings, by midweek. The Steelers had already taken approximately 75% of the early betting money at DraftKings Sportsbook too.

“What it comes down to, I think, is that bettors believe this is the last chance for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to get it done,” said Johnny Avello, the director of race and sportsbook operations at DraftKings.

“[Roethlisberger] is healthy now, and that’s a big factor. For the Steelers, maybe this is the last hurrah.”

Pittsburgh won eight games with smoke and mirrors and without the injured Roethlisberger last year. The team’s offense was a shadow of itself without a quarterback who could throw the deep ball, and yet coach Mike Tomlin’s team avoided a losing record.

The Steelers have never absorbed one in his 13 years, although this was the time it could have occurred.

Pittsburgh has excellent deep-threat receivers Juju Smith-Schuster and Diontae Johnson to go with Roethlisberger now.

Giants hope to start the year on the right foot

As for the Giants, Avello sees a team looking to start anew from a 4-12 campaign.

“The Giants are still trying to build the team,” he said. “The quarterback [Daniel Jones] is making improvements but still has a way to go yet. But even though the focus of the money has been on the Steelers, you have to remember that Jersey climate. You know closer to game time that we would expect to see more money coming in on the Giants.”

Avello said the Giants at times “come up with surprise years. We have seen that in the past.”

And indeed, a look at the G-Men’s Monday Night Football history is a snapshot of that. Two definitive Monday Night wins came in the midst of their surprise seasons, which resulted in Super Bowl triumphs.

Top 5 Monday Night Football games for the NY Giants

Here are five celebrated Monday Night moments, chosen by a jury of one.

1. Mark Bavaro’s grit — Dec. 1, 1986

This 21-17 road victory was a coming-of-age triumph for the NY Giants en route to the Super Bowl they would capture a couple of months later.

They trailed 17-0 against the host San Francisco 49ers in the third quarter when Phil Simms completed a pass to tight end Mark Bavaro. The rugged Bavaro rumbled 25 yards, more than 10 with four defenders on his back.

The play gained a key first down and exemplified the Giants’ grit. They scored a touchdown on the drive and then got two more while holding the Niners scoreless in the second half.

The victory was considered an indication the Giants could get to the next level.

One month later, the Giants would pound San Francisco 49-3 in the playoffs. Bavaro’s catch was the beginning of New York’s 70-3 run against a playoff team.

2. Final heroics vs. the 49ers — Sept. 2, 1991

The G-Men opened defense of their 1990 championship with a nail-biter against the Niners, winning on the final play of the game.

A downfield drive and a field goal on the last play gave the Giants a 16-14 triumph in prime time.

3. Tiki Barber ends the Cowboys’ winning streak — Oct. 18, 1999

The Giants had never beaten the Dallas Cowboys on the Monday Night Football stage. Tiki Barber ensured that they would.

First, he returned a fourth-quarter punt for an 85-yard touchdown to give the Giants a 10-3 lead.

After Dallas marched down the field to secure a tie, Barber made the game-breaking play on the final drive. He took a pass from quarterback Kent Graham and stormed 55 yards to the Dallas four-yard line.

The Giants ran the clock down and kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired. They had finally put a Monday Night Football “L” on Big D, 13-10.

4. Tiki Barber and the Giants defense — Sept. 19, 2005

The Giants were supposed to play MNF in New Orleans, but the city had been ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

The game was switched to New York. And in the home confines, Barber excelled with two first-half touchdowns. The defense added six takeaways, and the result was one of the Giants’ most dominating Monday night efforts on both sides of the ball.

They prevailed 27-10 as an away team on their own field.

5. Eli Manning, a 43-yard TD and a Giants victory — Oct. 15, 2007

It was not only what the game proved but what it promised that put this 31-10 Giants victory against the host Atlanta Falcons on the list.

Quarterback Eli Manning tossed a beautiful 43-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress to put the Giants in front for good.

New York’s dominating effort signaled the best was ahead. It was the team’s largest victory margin of the entire season. It was the Giants’ fourth straight win in what would become a six-game win streak, showing they could get hot.

Later, they did, stunning the heavily favored New England Patriots to win Super Bowl 42.

Level Up, NFL Fans: NJ Sportsbooks Kick Off Week 1 With Odds Boosts, Free Bets

There’s more than just a couple of NFL free bets and odds boosts to consider from New Jersey online sportsbooks, but here are some of the good ones.

Promos, odds boosts, and free bets… oh my. Must be NFL Week 1 at New Jersey online sportsbooks.

Players love sportsbook enticements because they increase value and often eliminate the natural “vig” of 10%. Operators love them because the props entice new players. And current players, too.

Bettors can target Thursday night’s opener, the rest of Week 1, or the entire NFL 2020 season. Of course, this is just a selection, and it’s only Week 1. Who knows what will happen in the next 17 weeks.

Anyway, let’s dive in and see what NJ sports betting apps have to offer.

Thursday Night Football odds boosts and no-brainer bets

There is still some time left to jump on DraftKings’ no-brainer prop. To celebrate the NFL’s 101st season, DraftKings Sportsbook lets you bet on the Kansas City Chiefs at +101 against the Houston Texans on Thursday night.

It’s called the biggest no-brainer ever because, well, it is.

The maximum bet is $50, and you must select the boost in your bet slip before making the wager. This excludes live bets, parlays, free bets, cash out bets, voided bets, and odds boost. And of course, it’s one qualifying bet per user.

And here’s a mini no-brainer odds boost at DraftKings.

Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes combining for more than 4.5 passing touchdowns between them for Thursday night. It has been boosted to +140.

What’s deceiving is that Kansas City runs the ball more near the goal line than one would think and both quarterbacks are rushing touchdown threats. Nonetheless, this gets a piece of my bankroll.

Sunday NFL free bets and promos

For Sunday games you have some time to think, but here are a few good ones from a few of the top NJ sportsbooks.

DraftKings: Making an impossible bet possible

The Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win is boosted from +334 to +380.

The Colts are -400 on the moneyline as an eight-point pick against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The New England Patriots are -295 against the Miami Dolphins as a 6.5-point favorite.

You can’t play either team on the moneyline, but here you can by taking them with the Buccaneers, who are +148 as a standalone moneyline bet against the New Orleans Saints. They are 3.5-point underdogs.

FanDuel and a Monday Night Football bet

FanDuel Sportsbook has several beauties.

One is the Road to 55 promo, a nod to Super Bowl 55.

Bet $50 on any NFL team to win Super Bowl 55 and gain $5 in site credit for every regular-season game the team wins. If that team wins 10 games, for example, your real bet was zero, plus the possibility exists for that club to win it all.

FanDuel tantalizes New York Giants bettors for Monday Night Football, too.  The G-Men to win outright in a game that hits 48 points or higher has been boosted to +420. That’s a sweet price if the Giants can win a shootout.

Here’s a nice odds boost: The Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings, and Indianapolis Colts all to win. Hiked from +171 to +210.

Now, you can’t touch the Ravens at -360 against the Cleveland Browns and the Colts at -420 against the Jaguars. But combine them with the big-risk bet, the Vikings, who are -156 against the Green Bay Packers for a game in which they are only favored by 2.5 points entering the week.

Bet three teams with big minus moneyline numbers, they all win, and you have +210.

PointsBet: The rainmakers make it rain

Barkley, Bell, and free bets. Need we say more?

OK, we’ll say more.

PointsBet NJ has a season-long promo in which Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants or Le’Veon Bell of the New York Jets provide you money every time they score.

All it takes is a $25 bet in the NFL Futures Props Promo Markets. When you bet, you will receive a $6 free bet for each touchdown the player you selected scores after each game.

But be advised: Free bets will be paid out within an hour of each game and are valid for only one week of issue.

So put them right back in play.

BetMGM and a $20 free bet just because

To be fair, these NFL free bets from BetMGM Sportsbook are for both Thursday and Sunday games.

But they deserve a mention here because all customers have to do to get the free bet is log into their BetMGM account.

BetMGM is gifting users in New Jersey $10 free on Thursday ahead of the Chiefs-Texans NFL opener. Then, on Sunday, BetMGM will give users another $10 free.

Not too shabby.

Super Bowl Odds: Tampa Bay, Tom Brady Get All The Attention Before NFL Kickoff

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers command 25% of DraftKings Sportsbook’s total Super Bowl 2021 futures bets. Why? It’s Brady. Need we say more?

Tom Brady continues to be the bait on the end of a sportsbook fishing rod as the NFL season prepares its Sept. 10 launch.

Bettors are biting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his new team, as a favorite to win the Super Bowl. The Bucs account for nearly 25% of the DraftKings Super Bowl futures betting handle, despite missing the post-season last year.

Brady’s move from the New England Patriots electrified the futures betting market in March. He propelled the Bucs from 50-1 to 14-1 to win the Super Bowl this season across New Jersey online sportsbooks.

It is one of the largest, if not the largest, off-season odds move for any team in NFL history. The Bucs were 7-9 last season. They did not make the playoffs but, astoundingly, have become shorter-priced than eight teams that did.

Let’s examine some top contending teams in the Super Bowl futures big picture as we near NFL kickoff.

Top 10 teams and 2021 Super Bowl odds

To begin, here are the Super Bowl futures odds for the top 10 teams at NJ sportsbooks (odds as of 12:30 p.m. ET Sept. 4).

FanDuel Sportsbook odds are similar to DraftKings for a Super Bowl championship. Some odds shift slightly on longer-shot teams.

Baltimore Ravens+650+650

Tampa Bay Buccaneers + Tom Brady = Super Bowl?

Tampa Bay received a league-leading 25% of the DraftKings Sportsbook handle and 17% of the bets, according to end-of-August tabulations.

The belief is that Brady will add stability to an offense that was formidable but turnover-prone last year. The Bucs have an excellent offensive line and numerous weapons such as receiver Mike Evans. And they just today signed Leonard Fournette to a one-year contract as running back.

They were undone by Jameis Winston’s dubious first-ever 30-30. He was the first NFL quarterback to throw 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in one season and cost the team with a number of interceptions that were returned for touchdowns.

The Bucs talked Brady’s favorite target, Rob Gronkowski, out of retirement. That’s a help to Brady, but neutral as far as the Bucs offense overall because they were already strong at tight end.

Nonetheless, New Jersey sportsbooks are grateful for the interest Brady pumped into the NFL off-season. Bettors also love the value this futures prop would bring.

Kansas City Chiefs are tops in Super Bowl futures

How about the team that actually WON the Super Bowl last year, the Kansas City Chiefs? They are +600 at DraftKings and have 11% of the handle, 8% of the bets at DraftKings.

What’s not to like about this team? If quarterback Patrick Mahomes is not hurt, they can score at will. Fans get to see them again in the first game of the NFL campaign Sept. 10.

It’s a tantalizing rematch of their AFC semifinal championship game against the Houston Texans.

Remember that barnburner, when your over bet was cashed at halftime?  The Chiefs stormed back from a 24-0 deficit to win 51-31. It was the first time in NFL history a team both trailed and led the same game by 20 points.

One delirious PointsBet NJ backer, a high-money gambler who preferred to remain anonymous, recalled doubling down on the Chiefs in-game, time and again.

His final bet was a capitulation. And it led to exhilaration.

“By the time it got to 24-0, I said ‘the heck with it and went all-in with the rest of my budget,’ he recalled. “I just figured I was beaten.”

The Chiefs, original 10-point favorites, were an astonishing +300 by that time in the game.

This bettor was “chasing,” a strategy that’s not recommended in general, especially for gambling novices. But in this case, it provided a hall-of-fame memory for him.

Ravens, Saints, 49ers are in the running

The Baltimore Ravens, who had a terrific season before being too tight in a playoff loss to the Tennessee Titans, are +650 with 11% of the handle and third-most bets, 8%.

The New Orleans Saints, who suffered a surprising first-round upset loss to the Minnesota Vikings last season, have 6% of the handle at +1100. The New England Patriots without Brady have 6% of the Super Bowl action at +1800.

And the San Francisco 49ers? Remember them? They had the Super Bowl in their pocket before collapsing in the last few minutes against the Kansas City Chiefs last year. The Niners are +900 and have 6% of the action.

One could suspect that the Brady hoopla in the NFC shifted some of their betting support to Tampa Bay.

Who can win the AFC and NFC conferences?

FanDuel and DraftKings have the same Top 5 to win the AFC and NFC:

NFL division champs are almost a sure thing… almost

The projected numbers you see on possible Super Bowl and Conference-winning teams logically carry down to negative numbers for the division races.

Kansas City and Baltimore are prohibitive, in the range of between -200 and -450 at New Jersey books to win their divisions. Rightly so.

But some of the other divisions are up for betting grabs and can appeal to line shoppers for different teams. Take a look:

NFC East

In the NFC East, the Philadelphia Eagles are a good-value +150 at DraftKings. The Cowboys are favored at -121.

FanDuel has Dallas at -130, the Eagles at +130. An Eagles backer who is line shopping goes to DraftKings.

For Big Blue fans, the New York Giants are +1500 at FanDuel, +1100 at DraftKings.

Find out more about the Eagles 2020 season here. Find out more about the Giants 2020 season here.

NFC South

For instance, the Brady Bunch, the Bucs, are still an underdog in the NFC South. They are +150 at DraftKings while New Orleans is -125. FanDuel has New Orleans at -115, Tampa Bay at +160.

Is a changing of the guard coming? How sweet it is that these teams meet in the first game, and we can get a perspective.

NFC North

In the NFC North, the Green Bay Packers, who went to the finals last year, are +180. The Minnesota Vikings are slightly favored at +160, both at DraftKings. Minnesota is +165 and Green Bay +190 at FanDuel.

The Pack as an underdog here is a bit of a surprise. It reflects a sentiment that Aaron Rodgers could get hurt and miss time.

NFC West

San Francisco is -115 in the ultra-competitive NFC West because of the Seattle Seahawks, who are +230 on the FanDuel ticket. The Niners are -106 and Seattle is +220 at DraftKings.

Their division race, decided by perhaps one-foot last year when the Seahawks were stopped just shy of the Niners goal line on the final play of the season, was one of the best ever.

AFC East

The AFC East is exciting because, for the first time in many years, the New England Patriots are not favored. Buffalo has a slight edge, +120 vs +130, according to DraftKings.

FanDuel has the teams exactly deadlocked at +125. If you are thinking longshots, the NY Jets are +800 at FanDuel and +850 at DraftKings.

Click here to learn more about Jets odds in the 2020 season.

AFC South

Indianapolis, at +100 and Tennessee at +160, are expected to wage a dogfight in the AFC South at DraftKings. FanDuel has Indianapolis at +125 and Tennessee at +165.

NJ Sportsbooks Show Eagles R-E-S-P-E-C-T As Super Bowl Contenders

Will the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl this year? There’s a chance, say New Jersey sportsbooks, but Eagles odds will shift throughout the season.

The Philadelphia Eagles have the respect of New Jersey sportsbook operators before launching their third season since winning the Super Bowl. A closer look at Eagles odds reveals that the Birds show promise in 2020.

They are placed in the top quarter of teams to win the 2021 Super Bowl, sport healthy consideration for claiming the NFC title, and rank as major contenders for the NFC East championship.

Oddsmakers at NJ online sportsbooks appear to have dismissed their first-round playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks last season because Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz missed most of the game with an injury.

Let’s look a little closer at this team.

Can the Eagles win the Super Bowl?

According to DraftKings and FanDuel? Yes. But there’s an asterisk.

The Eagles were tied for seventh place at +2000 in late August for favored Super Bowl odds. The defending champion Kansas City Chiefs led the way at +600. And as expected, the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers were right behind the Chiefs.

Super Bowl LV oddsDraftKingsFanDuelFox Bet BetMGMPointsBet
Philadelphia Eagles+2000+2000+2000+2500+2200

The upstart Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who acquired quarterback Tom Brady and coaxed his favorite target Rob Gronkowski out of retirement, were +1400.

Philadelphia came in at the same price, +2000, as the New England Patriots at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Odds of 20-1 to win it all are a sign of respect. FanDuel Sportsbook has the Eagles at +2000, too.

The odds are a little longer at BetMGM (+2500), even with the Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and Minnesota Vikings.

What would it take for the Eagles to recapture the Super Bowl euphoria they experienced three years ago?

To go beyond the boundaries of a division title, the defending NFC East champions need an upgrade at wide receiver. That’s been elusive.

Offensive weapons are missing for the Eagles

Wentz has been a steady, if unspectacular, quarterback in his two returning seasons from a knee injury. One reason has been the absence of a deep receiving threat.

Wentz threw 27 touchdown passes last year, middle of the road totals. But he threw only seven interceptions.

That’s astonishingly effective.

He became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw 20 or more touchdowns with seven or less interceptions in three straight seasons. His interception rate of one every 58.7 attempts is second only to Aaron Rodgers, 72.2.

Wentz has had 23 games in his career featuring 30 or more attempts with no interceptions, the best by any quarterback in his first four seasons.

All strong. But can he reach the plateau of a Patrick Mahomes, who threw 50 touchdown passes two years ago for the Kansas City Chiefs?

Wentz needs more offensive weapons to help him.

After four years, he still has never won a playoff game. He’s reaching the middle of his career. Is a breakout on the horizon?

Can the Eagles win the NFC?

That number is 10-1, according to DraftKings and FanDuel. Fox Bet puts the odds at a similar +1000.

NFC Championship oddsDraftKingsFanDuelFox Bet BetMGM
Philadelphia Eagles+1000+1000+1000+1200

But it would still require them to slip past the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, and New Orleans Saints in the post-season.

The Eagles did beat the Packers at Lambeau Field in 2019, so it can be done. They were improving at the end of last year and had Wentz not gone down early in the playoff opener against the Seahawks, they may have reached the NFC semifinals.

Can the Eagles win the NFC East?

Short answer: Absolutely.

Eagles odds are +150 to win the NFC East at DraftKings, with the Dallas Cowboys the chalk at -121.

The +150 is a nice price. FanDuel has Philadelphia at +130.

NFC East oddsDraftKingsFanDuelFox Bet BetMGMPointsBet
Philadelphia Eagles+150+130+140+130+130

Johnny Avello, the director of race and sportsbook operations for DraftKings, told NJ Gambling Sites that the Cowboys gain big betting support nearly every year.

There is a mystique about the Cowboys, but that often leads to them being overbet.

This area is the sweet spot regarding where someone might place a large bet on the Eagles. A division win is realistic and well-priced.

Can the Eagles make the NFL Playoffs?

The NFC East only sent one team to the playoffs last year: its division winner.

Given the talent of the league, the Eagles will probably have to win the division again to make the playoffs. DraftKings gave them a thumbs-up -225 number and +180 for them not to. FanDuel has them at -188 yes.

If you think only one NFC East team makes the playoffs, and that it’s the Eagles, taking them to win the division is where the value is.

Eagles 2020 season overview

What picture do the sportsbook operators paint of the Eagles’ upcoming season?

FanDuel has the Eagles at 9.5 for the over-under wins total. The over is +120 and the under is -120.

A FanDuel prop puts Wentz at a projected just-average, 3,899-yardage total on a FanDuel prop. That’s only 200 yards more than Cincinnati Bengals rookie Joe Burrow on the DraftKings prop.

Throughout the sportsbooks, Wentz is in the same general area of New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones and Burrow.

That’s a lower tier.

Is Carson Wentz injured?

Developing situation: Wentz has been missing some practice time because of a soft tissue injury.

He’s expected to start the season, but this condition can sideline players for a couple of weeks.

Bettor Beware! You’ll want to know this before making the play.

Offense: the good and the bad

The Eagles don’t have Jordan Howard in the backfield and will rely on Miles Sanders and Boston Scott.

Sanders showed breakout speed last year, and Scott was a late-season find. But the Eagles still need a durable fullback and blocker for their fleet-footed backfield.

The best tight-end tandem in football is Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. They combined for an astonishing 146 catches last year for 11 touchdowns.

This was a tight-end first offense. Ertz caught 88 aerials for six touchdowns. Goedert had 58 catches for five scores.

Granted, this is a DFS nightmare for fantasy-football owners, but it was the best offensive component the Eagles had last year.

Defense: upgrades and memories

The Eagles upgraded their pass defense by getting Darius Slay and Nickell Robey-Coleman.

Saints bettors remember Coleman’s pass interference penalty that was not called against him in the 2019 NFC championship game against the LA Rams.

It would have allowed the Saints to run out the clock and kick the field goal that would have put them in the Super Bowl. Instead, the Rams won in overtime.

Bettors don’t forget.

DraftKings Sportsbook Says Kansas City Chiefs +101 Points Is A No-Brainer Bet

DraftKings Sportsbook is celebrating the NFL’s 101st season by offering users another no-brainer odds boost of Chiefs +101 points vs. the Houston Texans.

DraftKings Sportsbook is pretty much guaranteeing Andy Reid will be the winning coach in the 2020 NFL season opener.

At least from an NJ sports betting perspective.

His defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs fall under the “No-Brainer” category of bets.

Can you think of a better way to describe the DraftKings odds boost of Chiefs +101 against the Houston Texans?

In other words, this is one of those hard-to-pass-up deals from DraftKings. A $50 wager (the max amount allowed) will result in a $95.50 payout.

For those wondering what about the actual line is minus the insane odds boost, KC is a 9.5-point favorite (as of late Wednesday morning).

DraftKings Sportsbook + no-brainer odds boost

No-brainer wagers are one of those successful returning promotions DK likes to offer customers.

Last season, bettors had the opportunity to wager on whether the Philadelphia Eagles would score a touchdown in Week 1. The Birds ended up scoring four touchdowns in the 32-27 victory over the former Washington Redskins.

Getting a piece of the latest no-brainer action is easy. If you don’t have a DraftKings account, download the app and follow the instructions to create one.

Once you log in, the promo link is located in a banner ad at the top of the page. As far as the rules go, here are the terms:

  • The wager must be placed by 8:20 p.m. ET on Sept. 10.
  • Users will be issued a single-use odds boost for the Chiefs to cover +101 point spread (boosted to -110).
  • Select the boost in the bet slip before placing wager.
  • Excludes live bets, parlays, free bets, cash out bets, voided bets, and odds boosts.
  • Limited to one qualifying bet per user.

Chiefs chances of winning the Super Bowl

While deciding to take the Chiefs +101 points is a no brainer, there is a much bigger question to ponder.

What are the Chiefs’ chances of defending their AFC and Super Bowl titles? To be fair, there are still plenty of New Jersey bettors rooting for Reid to succeed.

During his 13 seasons with the Eagles, he set the franchise mark for coaching wins with 130. Sure, he didn’t bring the Vince Lombardi Trophy back to Philly (like Doug Pederson did in 2018), but he remains one of the greatest of all-time in Philadelphia pro sports history.

As far as KC goes, DraftKings has the Chiefs as a slight favorite over the Baltimore Ravens to repeat as AFC champs. Here is a rundown of the current favorites on the app:

  • Chiefs +300
  • Ravens +320
  • Colts/Patriots +1100
  • Bills/Steelers +1200
  • Titans +1300

The same two teams are leading the field in the Super Bowl betting picture:

  • Chiefs +600
  • Ravens +650
  • 49ers +900
  • Saints +1100
  • Buccaneers +1400
  • Cowboys +1500
  • Eagles/Patriots/Seahawks +2000

Figuring out how this will play out will require brainpower and some luck.

The no-brainer odds boost, on the other hand, is as sure a thing as it gets. Think about it.

What are the chances Houston outscores Kansas City, 102-0?

DraftKings Finds Way To Trump No Election Betting With Free Presidential Pool

Joe Biden and Donald Trump election odds shifted. While you can’t bet on the election in NJ, DraftKings Sportsbook offers a free presidential pool instead.

You can’t legally bet on US presidential election odds in New Jersey, or in any other US state for that matter. People in places like the United Kingdom can legally do so, however, and election betting is big business there.

After last week’s Republican National Convention, the space between the two top candidates for the White House narrowed in legal markets. That might not matter much for most NJ sports betting fans.

But there is a legal way for those in the Garden State to get in on the action in a limited fashion.

GOP convention tightens 2020 presidential election odds

Prior to the Republican Party’s time in the spotlight, the odds on Democratic nominee Joe Biden painted him a stronger favorite. At the end of July, Biden sat around -177 at most UK books.

Meanwhile, the odds of President Donald Trump’s reelection sat at +160.

AP Photo / Charles Krupa

When the Democrats held their virtual convention, that seemingly only stalled the odds moving in Trump’s favor.

Biden was -145 during the Democratic National Convention while books slotted Trump at +125. Since the RNC, those odds had moved to -118 on Biden and +100 on Trump, with slight variances from book to book.

The way bettors are staking their claims seems to be a large part of the reason for the movement in these lines. As Election Day approaches, it seems more UK bettors want to put their money down on Trump’s reelection.

In theory, however, these odds could still move by great margins.

Biden and Trump will debate three times between now and Election Day, with Sen. Kamala Harris and Vice President Mike Pence also slated to face-off once as well.

Right now, it’s hard to predict exactly how those debates will affect election odds.

What’s certain, however, is that DraftKings Sportsbook is offering New Jersey (and anywhere the DraftKings DFS app is available) an opportunity to get into a free contest based on these results.

DraftKings’ free-to-play pool for the 2020 election

Because you don’t have to wager any real money in this contest and there is no entry fee, it’s not gambling and therefore legal in NJ.

Johnny Avello, DraftKings’ head of sportsbook operations, had the following to say about offering the free presidential pool:

“We offered this before,” Avello stated. “Our first pool was on the debate. I think we had 70,000 users for that one. This one we are up to about 26,000-27,000 users.

“Obviously, with so much time to go, this looks like it’s going to be one of the bigger ones. If you can’t bet on it, why not do some things with it for fun. Our thinking is you can’t bet on it now, but there is the possibility to bet on it in the future. This is a topic that everybody has an opinion on, of course.”

DraftKings Sportsbook is offering $100,000 in prizes to contestants. The game asks participants to predict the results of the race not only nationwide but also in crucial states such as Colorado and Michigan.

To join the free-to-play presidential pool, log into your DraftKings account or visit the DraftKings DFS app and do the following:

  • Pick your answers for the 12 election questions by 5 p.m. ET Nov. 3.
  • Only one entry per person.
  • All races will be determined by AP vote count.
  • All prizes will be distributed by 11 a.m. ET Nov. 4.

If there is a tie at the end of the presidential pool, the prize will be split among the contestants in that position. The grand prize is $5,000.

Election betting a no-go in New Jersey

For DraftKings, it’s about more than adding an amusing element to Election Night, however. It’s all about growing the customer base.

As Avello pointed out, wagering on the election remains illegal. That means there are many potential DraftKings customers who might bet on the election if they could that the company can’t access right now.

Offering this contest on a free-to-play basis enables DraftKings to connect with potential new customers in jurisdictions where the DraftKings Sportsbook app is not yet available.

Once the company has that information, it can start marketing its other products to them that are legal in their jurisdictions.

No matter who wins the election on Nov. 3, if the presidential pool adds to DraftKings’ customer base, DraftKings will be a winner as well.
